Looking for some guidance around the nano leaf hd smart controller. I’m about to purchase the led strip but noticed on the comments they don’t work well because they use Bluetooth and matter. I believe these new version now use wifi just like the shapes and lines which I currently use with hubitats built in driver which use the IP address. I’m nearly sure the new versions of these nanoleaf strips use wifi as well but wanted to double check with the community.
Here is the link and in the specs it’s says comms protocol wifi
Matter over Bluetooth isn't a thing--at least not for regular device operation (it is used for commissioning and could be used with a Matter bridge for Matter communication over some other protocol, generally Wi-Fi or Ethernet -- but any Bluetooth control would have likely been from the mobile app and the device it was running on, for example).
The ones you linked to state Matter over Wi-Fi. Other Nanoleaf devices I have seen are Matter over Thread. Either can work, though Wi-Fi should be fine if you have good Wi-Fi coverage wherever you are using them and have some Matter controller in your home capable of commissioning the devices (many smart speakers, for example; Hubitat cannot do this directly at the moment). Unlike Thread devices, you wouldn't need a Thread Border Router (TBR) for this, though it's possible you'd already have one (some smart speakers also do this).
For more information, I'd suggest:
I cannot speak to how well these particular devices work. I have the Thread lightstrip and it has worked well for me, after some Nanoleaf firmware updates.
Note that Wi-Fi over Matter devices are likely usable only as Matter devices, not with the "legacy" Nanoleaf Wi-Fi protocol, so you will likely need to integrate that way instead of with the direct Wi-Fi. Someone else might be able to confirm this. But as long as you have the above (and a Matter-capable Hubitat hub), it should work.
Ah ok so I was reading too much into the specs , when I looked at the spec section it says wifi o
I presumed they would work the same as the lines / shapes having matter support.
I had one of these lights, it's in a drawer somewhere. They do work with the nanoleaf driver in hubitat. (100% local) I think it was too small for my project which is why it's in storage somewhere. (I have a lot of nanoleaf panels) They do matter over wifi if you do want to set them up but you'd need to commission them first. If you're doing just hubitat then you can simply connect them with the built in driver.
