My thermostat recently went on me (I promise this is related). It was a Honeywell, and those are prone to problems, so I changed it with an Ecobee. When I was researching this, I saw mention of integrating it with Apple Homekit. I know Hubitat has integration as well, but I've never had a reason to have Hubtat control my thermostat. I've been a longtime Apple user, but that has faded in recent years, and part of the reason I never went HomeKit, but I did go ahead and buy a Homepod, and have it linked to my Hubitat system, and it's able to flawlessly detect if my phone is home or not. So I set up a virtual switch in Hubitat that when it's on, Hubitat is set to home, and when it's off, Hubitat is set to away. So, now, Homekit detects my phone, and sets the switch, and I now have a fully reliable presence sensor.
Beyond that, this has really opened up a lot of creativity for me. I set up a shortcut on my phone, so that when I go to bed, I tell Siri I'm in bed, and it turns off the bedroom lights, turns on the bedroom ceiling fan, sets the thermostat to sleep mode, and sets my phone to sleep mode (basically do not disturb.)
I know this is not the most ideal way to go about it for everyone, but I've gotten a bit like a kid in a candy store with this now.
