My original Amazon Echo just died

My original Echo just died today. I think I got this when it was available by invitation only. The power supply is fine (at least the output is ~15V DC), so something internal to the Echo died.

Lasted longer than my first Homepod Mini. That thing only made it less than 2 years (past warranty of course). It died in a similar fashion, was getting power but just totally dead. Took it apart (which is no easy task), and could not find any obvious issues. I was hoping maybe just a wire popped off somewhere and I could fix it.

One of my 4 year old HomePod Mini’s died yesterday. Maybe it has something in common with the echo. Died of a broken heart :broken_heart:.

I have one just like it still. Microphone stays off, just being used in a group for music.

Conspiracy theory: There is a countdown timer in the firmware that kills the device after a period of time. Otherwise, they would have to support old systems until the lights go out.

Google would beg to differ.
They just sunset the device, too bad so sad, here is a meager coupon so you can buy a new one at nearly full price.

I've got a few old echo devices too - my favorite old one is the Echo Tap. Still works great, holds a decent charge, and is used quite a bit during pool season. I'm surprised that Amazon has not released an updated version...

You should be able to get them on eBay. Usually about $32 USD. I got 8 that way.

Edit: just checked, there are quite a few below $25 USD. Pairing the Gen 1 Echo is a bit of a pain (have to do it twice until the manual pairing link appears), but it can be done.

I also have the first echo via invitation as well and my power supply died last year. The echo is still working with a new power supply. This thing is a beast in an area with temp ranging from +40 to -25 Celsius.
