Hi all
I'm having a problem where my smart plug will turn off (recognised as off in Hubitat and LED off on plug) but power will still flow through. None of this is high load which should be putting the plug under strain. Just my PC station (monitor, speakers, external sound card, headphone amp).
The plugs seem to get in a state as they will work fine for several weeks/months and then start behaving like this. Resetting or leaving unplugged for a while will sometimes help but not always. But at some point they will start working again, usually when I've moved them away.
I say "they" as this has happened at the same place with several plugs. It first happened with an IKEA smart plug which I took as faulty and swopped with another IKEA. That too started doing the same so I thought an issue with IKEA (they're cheap after all). I switched with a Samsung plug and it started dong the same. Then on to an Innr which also did this. I now have a TUYA one but am not hopeful.
There must be something on that power network that is causing this as it's only at that same place every time. I haven't experienced this anywhere else, although don't have similar switching happening in a lot of areas.
Any ideas of what I could look for? Anyone else experienced this?
The fact you had the same experience with products from different manufacturers leads me to think there is something else at play, rather than within HE or with specific devices. Could it be that you are misinterpreting the LED lights on the plugs for whether they are on or off?
It would also be useful (for others I expect) for you to be more specific about the makes and models of the devices you are trying to use, plus the drivers you are attempting to use within HE.
It may also be worth checking if there is a firmware update available for the devices, or at least checking for any issues people have flagged with the devices that may explain what you are seeing.
Thanks for the reply.
I don't believe it's a HE issue (ruling out drivers, etc.). I say this as, even if I push the physical button on the plug which toggles on/off, I have the same issue, and that has nothing to do with HE. I just remembered this happened with a Samsung plug as well after the IKEA's (same place) and physical switch also did nothing. I will add to the original post. I am assuming that there must be something funny in the load that is preventing the relay from switching, but have no clue what that is or why it only occurs after a long time. I will look at updating firmware but that may be tricky as I don't have any of the manufacturer hubs. I've never done that before on these devices so I will need to see what is needed.
I'm only asking in the Hubitat forum due to the wide breadth of knowledge and to see if anyone has run into something similar from their experience. I've tried searching but didn't come across anything similar.
Only other suggestions I would make, beyond opening up to the broader knowledge base here, like you also acknowledged... Perhaps try using the smart devices plugged into another outlet in the house. Top see if that makes some kind of difference.
