I am migrating from Smartthings (over 100 devices ) to HE.. I am absolutely fed up with Smartthings compatibility and stability..so I'm awaiting shipment of my HE hub. I want to take this opportunity to properly architect my environment and want to install multiple HE hubs.. (split Zwave and ZigBee devices to separate hubs and possibly backup hubs)
Is this possible, can I have multiple hubs in the same location ? and is there a way to "share" devices across hubs
Do note that until the optional Hub Protection Service is released (assuming that's still the plan), you won't get a true "backup" hub; you can restore your hub database backup but will need to re-pair and for Z-Wave also replace or swap out devices. Even with the service, you won't get a true hot spare since devices can only be paired to one hub at a time, but the goal is that you can just restore a "super backup" from that service and be good.
Also, is there a problem you're trying to solve by splitting Z-Wave and Zigbee into separate hubs? As mentioned above, you certainly can, but this is a more complicated setup than keeping everything on one hub. Some people do this or other variations on multiple hubs, so I don't want to discourage this but also am not sure I'd recommend starting that way without a clear need (like range issues, e.g., for a detached garage, or more than the maxmimum 232 Z-Wave devices--the latter being something I don't think I've ever seen anyone here state as a reason, but I suppose it's possible). Hub Mesh makes this a bit easier than previous/other options, but it's still a bit more work.
