Multipe I dentical apps listed under Add user apps

I made a few attempts to install/repair the same package under HPM. Each time it puts an additional entry under add user app. Using HPM I removed the package. It is no longer available under HPM but still shows up multiple times under add user app. Is there a way to manually clean this up?

Go to the “apps code” page from the hub navigation menu (on the left hand side of the hub interface) and delete the apps.

Edit: if you don’t see “apps code,” you may need to expand the menu under “developer tools.”

You're describing the symptoms identified that were caused by a change in v2.3.6.xxx that was fixed in HPM v1.9.0. However, it required that HPM be updated first to completely avoid the issue. That Topic also details how to recover.
