Just beginning my move from ST to HE and starting with 5 door locks. If I follow the directions it appears I will have to remove each lock from the door to get it close enough to the hub to include it. That is a real PIA. Before I do that just thought I would ask if others have had luck some other way.
Also would appreciate any tips on getting my HE working with Alexa. For example do I install the app or the skill or both?
You do not need to install anything on the Hubitat hub. That will be done automagically for you. Simply open the Alexa app on your mobile phone or tablet, then Enable the Hubitat Skill, which will prompt you to log into Hubitat's Portal site. From there, it will automatically link Alexa to your Hubitat hub, and will automatically install the "Amazon Echo Skill" on your hub. Within the new app on your hub, you will be able to select which devices to share with Alexa.
Out of my 6 locks I only had one lock that I had to move the Hub close to get it to pair. 3 are pretty close to the hubs anyway, so you could really say I had to move 1 out of 3. YMMV
i had to do that with zwave kwikset locks.. but once i converted them to zigbee which is much more reliable i was able to include all of them in 2 houses 7 in total in place.. just try including either a zwave extender or zigbee switch in place first before trying the locks in place.
I moved over 3 locks from ST. Didn't have range issues with the Z-Wave + Weisers.
Weisers would only work with Generic driver though, not the one it picked. The older Kwikset Z-Wave joined but I had issues with a stuck device on discovery. Finally rebooted the hub and reset lock and it joined with a unique ID.
That was all when I was an HE noob, it's been 4 weeks now so I'm sooooo much more intune.
Funny - my lock and garage door were the last things I moved over to HE from ST. I wanted to get my HE Z-Wave mesh up and running on my mains powered repeaters and switches before moving my lock or garage door.
My first lock, a Yale 246... connected just fine after a factory reboot. Hub was a couple rooms away but not problem. I have a second Yale, a model B1L. They look almost identical but there are some technical differences. This one will not connect to the hub with the hub right on top of it. I have done the full factory reset twice and the hub still can not find it. I deleted it from my ST hub first but it had been working there with no issues. I have done the exclude process several times too. Not sure there is anything else I can do. Maybe I will try a "Repair" of the zwave.
Repair won't do anything if the device isn't connected to the hub, and even then it is usually better to let the mesh deal w/new connected devices w/Z-Wave Plus devices.
Try unplugging the hub from power (at the wall, not at the the hub, the USB connector on the hub can be fragile) and wait 30s, then reconnect and try the pairing again. I usually would exclude devices first (even if they were reset/excluded from a previous hub) before including them on HE.
I have learned through all the migration that when all else fails and you still have hair, move closer!
I had dozens devices that excluded and included just fine insitu. I had 2 or 3 that refused to do anything for no reason. Mohammed brought the HE to the mountain and Voila!
I just wanted to follow up on one point regarding my Schlage FE599 door lock. I contacted Schlage customer support who told me that since HE is not a "partner" they do not guarantee compatibility and in fact have not had a customer with HE who achieved full use of their lock. Guess I need to try and find a Kwickset or Yale lever lock that will physically fit my door. Disappointed.
Thanks for those responses. I have done the whole factory reset and repair twice now. I have tried the generic driver and the Schlage driver. It LOOKS like it is properly paired but it just never responds to any lock or unlock commands. Perhaps the customer service person at Schlage was misinformed about success with the Hubitat system. I have a Yale on the way (my 3rd) but it will not fit the door without some modifications. I was hoping to avoid that but need to move one to something that will work.
