SInce this topic came back to life, I thought I'd provide feedback on what works best for me. I use the android App HD+. It has it's own built in presence capability and it's been pretty much flawless for me. It's especially nice for Samsung phone users, since for some reason Samsung has problems with consistant location reporting. Somehow the author of HD+ has gotten around this problem. I don't know whether a similar verison exists for Apple phones.
