I woke up this morning to a drastic change in my main hub. Almost everything is gone. This is all that is left. I have restored from my last two cloud backups with the same findings.
Are there any characters in the search window. Maybe a space. From your screenshot it looks like there may be something there.
Click on clear and see what happens.
Boy do I feel stupid.....thanks.
You're not the first you most certainly won't be the last.
Sadly, yes.
This looks like an easy opportunity for a UI improvement....require search terms to begin with an alphanumeric character (and follow any other existing device name requirements, such as minimum length). Of course, there could also be an "advanced" search button to override the search limits.
for majority of apps this will work, but since we can use custom names for things like maker api, it can be a pain for the albeit handful of folks who would do it
Except that would suck when I actually want to search for something that doesn't have a letter, like when I was looking for rule names with double spaces. It also wouldn't stop someone from accidentally hitting 'a' and only seeing half of the things they expected.
A slightly better solution is hinted at in the thread I linked above. Simply make the search box stand out (via CSS) when there is filtering in play because of something (anything) in the search box.
Yeah, that's why I suggested (in the part of my post that you didn't quote) an advanced search option to eliminate all search restrictions, just as the current behavior.
As noted, you are definitely not alone.
I've had this happen a couple of times...momentary "OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE!?!?" horror when I see everything is gone. Luckily I don't think I've posted publicly about it (oops).
I expect really old people like @bobbles have it happen daily.

From a UI point of view, it may be difficult to make non-printing characters (space, LF, lots of UTF8, etc) stand out in the search box via CSS. I'd also say that someone who doesn't realize that they've entered a non-printing character in the search box may not even look there to understand that names are being filtered.
Perhaps the UI could be improved by prominently showing a heading above the list of devices or apps only when a search is active, such as something like:
Search results for the term "..." show below
How about if there is ANYTHING in the search box, the outline of the box turns red?
And flashes.
I think I'm insulted but then again....... what did you post again?
LOLs...Sorry, you're who, again?
Red, then green, then purple, then the hub plays "I Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who.
