Most frequently asked question about bundling Hubitat services

One of the most common questions we’re asked about the Hub Protect + Remote Admin bundle is how it works when you have multiple hubs—especially with the current $54.99/year promotional price.

Here’s the important clarification:

:small_blue_diamond: Only ONE Bundle Is Needed Per Account

Why?

Remote Admin is account-based, not hub-based. A single Remote Admin subscription provides secure remote access to all hubs registered under the same Hubitat account.

What About Additional Hubs?

For any additional hubs on the same account:

  • You do NOT need another bundle
  • You only need Hub Protect for each additional hub if you want extended warranty and replacement coverage.

If you’d like to protect additional hubs, you can take advantage of the current promotion and save $20/year on Hub Protect for each additional hub.

Recommended Setup for Multiple Hubs

  • Primary hub: Subscribe to Hub Protect + Remote Admin bundle ($54.99/year, while on sale).
  • Each additional hub: Subscribe to Hub Protect only ($25/year, while on sale - requires an active subscription for Hub Protect or Bundle on a primary hub).

This setup gives you:

  • :white_check_mark: Remote Admin access to all hubs on your account
  • :white_check_mark: Hub Protect coverage for every hub
  • :money_with_wings: The best overall value, without paying twice for Remote Admin

One additional point...this is a freakin' great deal, BTW.

Hi @bobbyD! I recently added Protect in addition to my existing Cloud Backup subscription, and I just noticed that my cloud backups are now back to capping at 5 again (instead of the 10 I had before adding Protect).

If stacking those 2 subs doesn't give 15 cloud backups, I can live with that, but I'd like to have access to the 10 that I should have with my Cloud Backup sub. And to clarify, I just mean access the rolling amount of 10/15 overall, not access any "missing" specific/particular backups.

I did remember to hit the "Reload now" link under the Cloud Backups tab this time  -- I've tried it several times, and even after a reboot for good measure... Still only showing the last 5.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks, that sounds like a bug. Since you added Hub Protect, it might have "forgotten" that you had Cloud Backup, so now is only showing up to 5. We will look into it.

This sounds like a bug. I'll take a look at it first thing on Monday.

Thanks Victor!

A post was split to a new topic: How to upgrade to the bundle

Good morning,

I have had hub protect on both my hubs since 2023. I have also tried the hub refresh and the backups are only retaining 5 backups.

Is there something I need to do to have the 10 cycle retention?

Please let me know if I need to include any additional information or anything else I need to do.

Thanks,
Don

Per hub, the Protect plan gives 5 cloud backups and the Cloud Backup plan gives 10. Stacking those two plans gives 15.

If you have Protect on 2 hubs, I'm almost certain you don't then get 10 per hub (15 each for 3 hubs, etc) - you still just get the 5 per hub with Protect.

But perhaps I'm misunderstanding your expectation for seeing 10 per?

As @hydro311 mentioned above, Hub Protect allows up to 5 backups/hub. If that is not what you get, please be sure to create a subscription case by visiting the following page: Subscriptions – Hubitat Support

My mistake. I am confusing hub protect and cloud backup. I get it now.

I just love the ability to be able to restore the hub. It has save me on several occasions. That is why I am such a big advocate of it on the community lol.

I will look into adding hub cloud restore later. Too much going on right now :frowning:

Right on!

I think 5 is a solid number for most folks. It's a long story, but I had an unusual scare in the very early days of the hub-migration's introduction where I was finally saved by my 5th (oldest & last) backup on Protect...

So having additional backups gives me greater peace-of-mind, though I realize it's no longer likely that I'll ever have to stretch that far back again (well, hopefully not anyway!)

Since Bobby was kind enough to retain my original pricing on both plans, I now have both Protect and CB. With 15 available, I do a cloud backup every other day (instead of weekly).

I was in the same situation several times where weekly backups almost got me. One month went by backing up a bad environment. I had a problem and had only the 5th backup to restore.

Needless to say after wiping the sweat from my body with several towels lol with the hub back up with a good configuration was to stop the weekly backups. I now take backups only after configuration changes. That’s why I don’t mind a few dollars for extra backups. Good investment in my mind. I can’t imagine needing to start over rebuilding four years of effort. :):734 :grinning:
