So after my struggle with the Hampton Bay Zigbee Ceiling Fan and light controllers, I got through that. They are on and work fine.... mostly.
I have them set up to be controlled by Alexa, and / or controlled by a temperature variable automation.
The issue I have is that when the command is issued EITHER by Alexa, the automation, OR the dashboard to run at either medium, or medium high speeds sometimes the fan just, well stops even though it says it is on at the requested speed. I call for the speed change again and it works fine.
I never had them with any automations but rather Alexa control, and app control under Smartthings, and the failing to start at the requested speed happened there too...
This usually isn't a problem, but my wife will wake up too hot and complain waking me up so I can fuss at Alexa to turn the fan on to X or Y speed...
This is a device issue, I (not all the time) routinely see this as well.
You'll notice that when the fan stops, if you cut the power to the fan (switch or breaker however yours is wired) then after 5-10 seconds turn it back on the fan will start spinning at that speed.
A couple of mine do this frequently when on the "high" setting only.
I've recently changed my automation commands to send the command twice and haven't noticed it happening "yet"
Please post a screenshot of the automation for this fan. I am wondering if the automation and the voice/dashboard control might be fighting with one another? We use Alexa voice control of our HBFC and it is has been very reliable.
Will do in a bit, however I doubt it is the automation. Read my post above. This occurred on Smartthings as well and there was no automation done there, just voice control via Alexa sending ST commands, or control via the app...
