As per title looking for an alternative to the minimote for portable exlcusion purposes, no one seems to sell it anymore and can't even find used ones on eBay etc.
I have found the aeon labs z-stick to work really well for exclusions.
I believe @mike.maxwell uses one too

FWIW, I use a Remotec ZRC-100. It's got replaceable batteries, and you can also use it to pass z-wave config values to the device. I picked one up years ago on eBay for ~$80. Seemed pricy at the time, but has proven to be useful time and again.
P.S. The tlr in your username doesn't arise from "Toll-like receptor", does it?
Nope more in reference to suzuki tl1000r. Does the zrc-100 need to be paired to the hub to perform exclusions.
Exclude is independent of the Network. Your Minimote, Aeon Z-Stick, etc can be joined to any ZWave network... you can borrow a neighbor's if you want
Exclude deletes the Network number on the device and it doesn't care what network number the device currently has.
The Aeotec Zstick is really easy to use. It has rechargeable batteries which means it is portable and a simple button on the device puts it into exclusion mode. The light flashes to show a success. At $45 or the equivalent, it is quite inexpensive.
does it not require a computer to be attached, all i have found was a usb zstick?
The ZRC-100 doesn't. Here's what it looks like
It does not for exclusion just use the button to put it into the correct exclusion mode then set to the device to exclusion mode and all will be well
The aeon is capable of excluding any device no matter where it was joined.
