I just received a replacement C8 hub under initial warranty and trying to figure out a simple way to to migrate to the new hub without totally screwing this up .
From what I was able to gather Cloud migration is my best option, but I need Hub Protect to utilize this.
This creates another question... The subscription is non-transferable unless it's for a warranty replacement.
Do I add Hub Protect to the current hub to enable the cloud backups, thus ability to use the cloud backup/migration?
If I do this, will the subscription transfer because the new hub is a warranty replacement?

No, it will not move automatically. However, I see that you went ahead and purchased the Hub Protect last night, and migrated to the new hub already.
That was a good decision because now the replacement hub is under the extend warranty, for the life of the plan, should the new hub fail again. Also with Hub Protect you will have a cloud backup that allows you to load onto a different hub, so you don't have to rebuild your Z-Wave or Zigbee networks, as well as move your automations and custom code.
With that being said, We have transferred your service to the new hub.
