Joined to Home, then to Hubitat. Discovered there is no Matter Smoke Alarm drivers.

Matter over Thread though? It sounded interesting until I saw that part. Do not want yet another type mixed in (not that there are many I don't already have blended together).
But, with @mike.maxwell and whoever else at Hubitat on it I would expect you will see results soon after it arrives.
How could you not want another type mixed in?! 
That's what we do here, right?
But I'd be more interested/concerned about its certification(s) than connectivity type.

Yes, I noticed that also. My use is to complement already existing alarms in places that don't currently have one. Figured they were better than nothing.

If and when these receive UL and FCC approvals, they might become interesting. The only certification listed is Certificate no. TA 50656512 0001, TÜV Rheinland (China) Ltd. Since it is a device that uses radio frequencies to communicate, it needs FCC approval for use in the US. Other areas of the world? That is up to your country.
