Every so often one of my Switches stops transmitting to the lutron hub.
I can control it with either hubitat or the lutron app but if i manual control it from the switch neither app tracks the status.
If i fiddle with the lutron app and switch it on/off, or change the level if available, it may start transmitting status again. Or if i wait long enough it will start responding again. (Not a stellar debug plan).
Every device is within 50m from the lutron hub. I have a lutron repeater upstairs just in case. No real physical obstructions. The devices normally work fine but every month or so one goes wonky for a few days.
Any ideas?
Reed from "smart home solver" recently said in a video that you can reboot a lutron device by pulling the thumb tab at its base, but the docs said this was just used to disable output power. Would love an easy reboot option since that might solve my problem but i don't like the idea of going to the breaker box quarterly. (Nonsequitor: love reed's videos, btw, worth a look if you haven't seen them)
I've never had a device do that except for a pico and a repeater solved it. If you move your repeater near that switch does the issue stop? I should have mentioned said pico was within 20 feet of the hub but walls in the way..
Is it always the same switch you have the issue with? If so, you can try swapping it with another switch from a different location and see if the issue follows the switch or stays at this same location. That will tell you if it is a location issue or a switch that is failing. So far, knock on wood, I have not had any issues with my switches. I have a large box full of them getting ready for my new house so I hope I don't have any issues in the future either.
50 meters? That’s significantly more than what Lutron recommends. You may want to add a second repeating device. Please read the following for details of what two specific devices can be used on a Caseta wireless network to improve the range of the system.
As far as I know, Lutron will use the first paired mains powered Caseta plug as a repeater, but other plugs paired after the first one will not function as repeaters. That is unlike Zigbee and Z-wave where you can have multiple repeaters.
Ya, I'm horrible with remembering distances. Not only should that have been feet and not meters, but my furthest switch is less than 30 feet away from the main hub (less than 20 feet of you go through a wall).
I have found the Lutron Caseta "clear connect" protocol to be very robust. I have dimmers and switches throughout my house including the garage, the basement, and both floors. At one time I tried Z-wave devices, but had difficulty keeping them connected. The only time I had an issue with Caseta was a dimmer that was DOA. The replacement worked fine.
I do have one plug in dimmer that acts as a repeater, but I have never had need for an additional wireless repeater. Lutron Caseta has been more reliable that Zigbee and far more reliable than Z-wave, even though I have multiple Zigbee and Z-wave repeaters/range extenders.
