I have two Lutron Caseta dimmers in the same box, so they share a line in (power source). One controls the lights on the left side of the room (just three LEDs), while the other controls the right side (just two LEDs). As these are Casetas, there isn't a dedicated line in or load out - the dimmer figures that out on its own. And, there's no neutral connection (just wired together in the box, of course, as I have a line (power source) coming in. But the problem is that unless I turn on the left side switch first, the right side won't turn on. If these were normal switches/dimmers, I'd just think I had mistakenly wired to line in of one dimmer to the load out of the other, but because they're Casetas, you can't really do that. But that's how they're behaving, as the one dimmer just won't turn on u oess the other is powered on. Has anyone faced this same issue with Casetas? If so, how did you fix it? I've found nothing in the Lutron forum. Thanks.
I have this type of setup in a few places in my home. In some cases it is two dimmers. In other cases, I have a dimmer and a switch in the same gang box. In other cases, it is a dimmer and a fan controller.
@Madcodger have all caseta and don't have that issue myself. Even with 4 in a box. I'm not sure if you're jumpering or not but you should do a split off of the line to bottom of both dimmers. so LINE ----< and split at the end with to shorter pieces of 14g solid. The only other thing I could see you're doing is tapping the line voltage to the other switch off of the load to the first set of lights, That could cause the behavior you describe...
Got to agree with @rlithgow1 - never had that issue either, and I have up to three dimmers in the same gang box. My wiring is the same as he described.
Cause is a wiring issue. Single poll switches can have the same issue since there is no specific line and load terminals. Typically the line from breaker is jumpered to both switches and then each have their own load wire to the lighting.
Based on your description it sounds like the load from one is the line of the other. Could you post a picture of the box? I would need to see clear picture of wiring coming into the double gang box plus any wire nuts, etc to help.
