Does anyone have a Inovelli Dimmer Red Series LZW31-SN that they are not using and want to sell? One of mine is going bad (still working, but randomly turns off, sometimes won't turn on when using the physical switch, LED changing colors etc.).
If you have one, please PM me. Thanks.
UPDATE: Or is there a replacement that has addressable LED bars? I use the colors to notify if doors (front/back) are unlocked.
I did see that but wasn’t sure if it matched the look of the old LZW31-SN. Also, I think it doesn’t create a “child” device any longer and the colors have to be changed through a custom command (I use Node-RED for automation logic so hoping that someone can confirm if it will work).
Anyone using the new switches that can give me some pointers?
I use blue switches and manage the led bars with Rule Machine's "Run Custom Action" action which allows you to run any valid device command (shown on the "Commands" tab of the device itself). On all inovelli switches, there are many LED bar related commands to choose from. There is also a command that allows you to directly change switch parameters, including those that drive LED color bar actions.
Thanks @kevin_wilcox - I think I should be able to use the same in Node-RED (though passing the parameters gets a little trickier). I'm debating between the red vs blue series. Since I currently have the red series, I'm leaning towards the new version of the red. Apart from the cost, do you know of any difference?
Blues are typically potentially more popular since lots of smart fixtures/bulbs are zigbee and thus you can directly bind the switches and lighting. Aside from that, Blues and Reds are very similar overall.
Matter stuff is obviously gaining popularity (Inovelli White series and lots of Matter lighting now), but the Matter binding spec is still not totally sussed out.
I have 75 zigbee devices; mostly Inovelli dimmers, and eight Z-wave devices. Zigbee by far is much easer when it comes to device inclusion/exclusion. Z-wave is always a struggle with the constant fear of creating a "ghost" during the process. I can literally count the times I've had a drama free experience on the fingers of one hand. Z-wave runs at a lower frequency though so has better wall penetration and there's zero concern that it may be impacted by WiFi.
So, I run Z-wave when I need to: Mesh extended to outside devices leveraging wall penetration superiority and also to use my quite spectacular Honeywell T6 thermostat. Another benefit here is that C8 and greater hubs can do Z-wave LR (unless you upgrade from an older model hub; then you need to reset the radio and re-build your entire z-wave network to get LR functionality).
My meshed WiFi network is powered by Ubiquity so I have 2.5GHz wireless spectrum under control here. This helps make zigbee my go-to wireless topology. Its reliable, easy to swap devices and works well with a good mesh containing lots of repeaters. The Inovelli Blue Collection is top notch too. I just received my first mmWave switch and am looking forward to playing with it this weekend without having to spend most of my time wrestling with include/exclude.
That's exactly why I have the two z-wave Inovelli's. They are on the inner wall and on the other side I have an outdoor outlet that is connected to my landscape lighting. I will likely have to stick with z-wave because I really have no other repeaters on that side
