Looking for whole home camera solutions, suggestions?

So I came across this today and got me thinking again about figuring out a camera solution. This doorbell itself looks like it could be a good replacement for my Ring.

Currently I have one wired Ring Doorbell and two Wyze cameras that are indoors.
Would like to add at least two outdoor cams (possibly floodlight style).

Wyze is not great for integrating to other platforms and is heavily cloud based, their cams work good, their software is decent, but its hard to do much else with it.

The Ring doorbell oddly has pretty terrible night vision. Also cloud based but at least I can integrate it to homekit via a Homebridge integration, and native Alexa integration. I have considered just adding some Ring cams but they are SO expensive and then need cloud subscriptions on top of that.

Would like/need:

  • Homekit integration (could be via RSTP / Homebridge)
  • Local storage of video / no (or very low cost) subscriptions
  • People detection (more than just motion)
  • Alexa integration to view on Show or FireTV
  • Wifi connection (I could run ethernet but would rather not)
  • Mains powered and battery powered options
  • Would ideally like to be able to get motion alerts pushed back to Hubitat somehow. Currently doing this with Ring via virtual switch in Alexa, its not ideal but it works.

I have some Eufy cameras that do a good job. Not integrated into Hubitat, but integrated into HomeKit via Home Assistant. This gives me the ability to automate whether they are on or off (don’t need them on during the day, for example).

Yeah I have looked at the Eufy ones before as well. Can you bring the video feed into HomeKit? If they have a RSTP feed it should be possible.

Yes. If you add the Cameras to HomeKit you can view them on your AppleTV, etc.

They don’t continuously stream video, though. They will stream on demand (for a set length of time - I forget what), and are triggered by a motion sensor built into the camera, as well. That is how they are able to get away with being battery powered, and store the video locally.

I’ve been pretty happy with Hikvision cameras for years.

Much more recently I heard about Camect, which is a local solution for an NVR with AI processing of motion-based alerts. I’ve found it works pretty well. It can use any camera that supports RTSP, I believe. And there’s a Hubitat integration for it that can enable/disable motion alerts to sync with Hubitat Safety Monitor.

My suggestion would be Reolink. I have several of them myself and I’m very pleased with my setup.

I use Hikvision. I'm a little biased maybe as I'm an installer. I've been installing their kit for about 9 years now, when cameras were pretty pants compared to the analogue kit I was used to using.

I primarily use the AcuSense turret range (DS-2CD23xx) with or without ColorVu. With the introduction of the 8 Megapixel models, the NVRs have been showing their age a bit, struggling when loaded to capacity due to the higher bitrates needed. The new M series NVR range is just starting to appear now and is way ahead of previous models for both incoming bandwidth and decoding (the new 16 channel M series can playback 8 x 8MP streams simultaneously)
