Looking for recs for basic door lock set up

Hi Community! We've had Wink with an older Schlage lock BE469NX for a couple years and it's worked very well. Now that Wink has gone down the tubes I've decided that Hubitat is the way to go to replace the Wink device. I'd also like to upgrade our door lock. Here's our scenario:

  • Need a front door lock with deadbolt and prefer a key on the lock as well as back up.
  • Hubitat and Wifi router will be located on the floor above the front door, perhaps 30 feet away. (Wink device was next to router and had no connectivity issues.)
  • Just need a basic setup to work the single door lock only. Add/remove codes remotely. Having codes expire after a set time would be good.
  • Reliability is the most important factor. This is for a vacation home and it's a pain to have to troubleshoot.
  • Batteries should last 6 months. Door lock use will be a couple times a day during the summer and a couple times a week during the winter.
  • I'm handy with technical set ups but if something goes wrong the person who needs to fix things may not be technical.

Thanks for your advice!

Ok. It's a Saturday evening, so I will be brief.

  1. Get a zigbee deadbolt lock. My recommendation is this one:
Yale Assure Smart Door Lock SL with Zigbee | Yale Home
It has been on my front door for 2 years, and I love it. Very reliable. Batteries last around 1 year. There's also a keyed version of the same lock.

  2. Get about 3-4 decent zigbee repeaters around your house. It will improve lock reliability and function. These are cheap and work well:

As an alternative, consider these:

Oh come on, admit it...posting this was the highlight of your night.

Sez the guy reading it on a Saturday evening.

I noted Yale website comments on the first lock mentioning "bump-able". Guess the inkling to have a keyed lock "just in case the HA fails" isn't in one's best interest on a lot of these.

If you want to stick with the same color/style Get the zigbee version of the BE469. I have the z-wave plus versions and they work well. The main issue with the older ones is the firmware. Anything under 7.10 is a crap shoot to connect.

Completely agree. I swapped out my Zwave Schlage deadbolts with Zigbee and have had no issues. Only trouble is Amazon is the only retailer for the Zigbee version and they have been out of stock except through third party:

Thanks all for the suggestions and advice. (Crazy news on the bump key thank you.) All of these locks seem hard to find at the moment. And Zigbee is better than Zwave? I read that Zwave has better range. And why isn't Schlage on the compatible devices list?

Mainly it's pre schlage 7.10 firmware but they used to be on the compatibility list. For so many people (especially coming from wink) having old versions of the lock and the newer z-wave 700 series chip it was becoming too much of a pain to troubleshoot and Schlage doesn't release firmware updates to anyone. So essentially while the native driver is still present, it will be left off the official compatibility list.
