Location not updating to hub

Weird thing. It seems to be the app. All of the sudden, the app doesn't work. It's buggy and gives errors when I click on things. If I click the settings cog wheel, it doesn't go to the settings screen, but will display a dialog box that says settings pressed (or something like that).

The main issue that is really hurting me right now is the location. I've tried uninstalling the app, logging out, and everything else I could think of. When I log back in, it asks me to select a hub. Once I do that, it starts to ask about the device, but then freezes briefly and skips that selection. The original device shows up in the hub device list. I can send a test message from the hub to the phone app successfully. But the location will NOT update no matter what I do. I've adjusted the geo fence size (which usually worked before), clicked "send geo event" in the fence settings, uninstalled/reinstalled the app, deleted the device from the hub and reinstalled the app, etc. I can't get anything to work. It's obviously connected based on the message, but the location doesn't work. The created, updated, and activity date sticks at the last time I created the new device (or re-created it). Sending a geo event doesn't register with the hub.

I'm on a samsung galaxy s25 ultra. I've done all the normal stuff in settings...give location permission all the time, unrestricted on battery use, allow to run in background, no optimization, etc.

Can anybody suggest a next step? My wife has a galaxy s25 ultra that works fine.

To add, the phone is sending or at least the app is getting the location (see screenshot) and notifications come through with no issue. Its like everything in the app is working except gps. Other gps programs on the phone are working. I feel like it's the hub not accepting the Geo events but have NO idea where to even start with fixing it.

I'm having the same issue.

We have automations setup where when both residents of our home leave, the hub switches to AWAY mode, and when either or both residents are home (inside geofence) the hub switches to HOME mode.

When the hub is in AWAY mode, it turns on a few fly lights which use harsh blue light and are very noticeable when on. Over the past few months, only one of the two phones are reporting the location correctly. If that person leaves the home (outside geofence), it's a coin flip on whether the other device will report correctly.

I've confirmed our hub is switching to AWAY mode when we still have one device inside the geofence. When I check that device's status in the Hub, it shows "not present". If I launch the app, it shows the device is inside the geofence. So the mobile device says "inside geofence" at the same time the hub says the device is "not present" in the geofence.

Support in troubleshooting these app issues is much appreciated!

Additional information and troubleshooting steps taken to date to support the devs:

App Version: 2.1.3.42
Phone Model: Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra - SM-S928U
Phone Software Versions:

  • One UI Version: 8.0
  • Android Version: 16
  • Google Play system update: August 1, 2025
  • Android security path level: September 1, 2025

Troubleshooting steps taken when the phone app shows "Inside Geofence" and the device status on the Hubitat dashboard shows "not present":

  1. Checked app permissions: Location "Allow all the time" with "Use precise location", Battery is "Unrestricted", Mobile Data is "Allow background data usage"
  2. Within the Hubitat app, attempted to select "Send Geo Event". The app provides no feedback that the button accepted the input or resulted in any action taken. The Hubitat shows no change on the device status after attempting to press the "Send Geo Event" button; it continues to show the device is "not present"
  3. Uninstalled and reinstalled the app. When setting up the app again, I selected the existing hub and selected the existing phone device in Hubitat to associate the phone.

Exact same situation with my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra - SM-938U

Additional troubleshooting. To determine if my phone GPS was working correctly AND that Android was not causing the issue:

  • installed IFTTT and created an applet to notify me when I go out of, or come back into my geofence (about 100 feet away from home) - WORKED

The issue is not Android as has been suggested elsewhere. It really seems to be the Hubitat mobile app, which never changes my location (at least not on the application gui).

A possible work around for some of you. I created a virtual switch in Hubitat (let's call it "I am home"). Then, using IFTTT, I used the Location service to track my phone's position relative to a geofence. I created an applet that when triggered by my crossing the geofence, changes the Hubitat virtual switch status from OFF to ON. Then, in Hubitat, i created a simple rule that when the virtual switch changed from off to on, it triggers a change to my mode, opens the garage door, and (depending on the luminosity sensors) turns on some lights.

Any resolution here? Having the exact same issue on a Pixel 9 XL Pro

Samsung Galaxy Note phone user here... prior to Life360 no longer working properly I had a difficult time dealing with GEO location on my hubitat. However, I found a free app for Android called EgiGeoZone that actually has worked well for my family. With one gotcha. While the app is easy to setup and reliable... the one issue I had with it was, when the Phone restarts from an update, the EgiGeoZone app wouldn't restart so you have to start it up once when that happens. I created a small app that would start EgiGeoZone to start up each time Android booted and they appears to have worked. Or you can use Tasker to do the same. But I just wanted a tiny startup routine so I crafted a little app that I'm still kinda tweaking and testing. But the EgiGeoZone has been very quick, easy and reliable for me and family. And free and NON-Cloud based!
