It's not the driver; these Xiaomi Mijia devices have some screwy Zigbee that causes them to stop communicating on the mesh. There are lots of threads on making them work reliably. E.g.,
Basically, the key to making them reliable is to get some compatible Zigbee repeaters; these devices will talk to those repeaters and not have a problem. The Ikea ones work great. E.g., these (for the US):
I have 4 of those repeaters around the house and 4 of these exact same Light Sensors (as well as a bunch of other Mijia/Aqara devices) and the sensors are all 100% reliable.
As for driver, I still apparently use Markus's driver on 2 of them, but I've switch 2 to @chirpy's driver here. I should probably switch the other 2 over (since Markus's driver is no longer being updated).
