Hi
I want to automatically close my garage after x minutes. But only in case that nothing is in the linę of the door. Safety close.
Do you know any sensor doing so?
Any laser?
Of course if during closing the sensor would be activatet closing will stop.
I have garage door opener. Now I need automated closing with safety barier
Thanks in advance for your involvement in this topic
Does your automatic garage door not have such a sensor already? I'm not sure what country/region you're in, but in the US, this has been required by law for a few decades or so. Other regions are likely to have adopted something similar (from the UL 325 standard). A smart opener isn't going to override this feature unless maybe you do something unusual. If you're rolling your own solution instead, I'd worry that it won't meet quite the same standards, but perhaps others would have some ideas.
I highly recommend Infinity Shield. It replaces the single beam sensor that comes with the garage door opener’s. My entire opening is now covered with the infinity shield so if my SUV hatch is open the GDO won’t close as an example.
Edit: From there you can further automate and integrate your garage door opener with the RatGDO that @ogiewon linked to above. But the Infinity Shield should accomplish what you require since the door will not close if it detects something for safety reasons.
I have an Infinity Shield, and it works MOST of the time to detect obstructions, but the hatch of my vehicle when open rises above the "curtain" of light beams and thus does NOT trigger the sensor (the transmitter/receiver bars are only about 7 feet tall). Works fine with my spouse's vehicle, the hatch of which does not rise above the beam curtain. So beware of that issue.
Same thing happened with my wife's taller SUV and I solved the issue by raising the Infinity shield's on the garage rail. I originally had them an inch or so off the ground floor so I just pulled them up the rail and solved the issue.
Code requires the typical garage beam to be 6 inches from the floor and the bottom of my Infinity Shields are still within that range.
If you do raise them beware of the curve on your GDO rails because the door braces may cross the infinity shield beam as the door comes down.
I had thought of raising the Infinity Shield's bars but 6 inches wasn't going to work form me -- I needed more like 10" but I wasn't going to raise the bars that far for safety's sake (we have short dogs!).
Yeah, I would try putting a dry contact sensor on the same leads that go to the opener. Usually those obstruction sensors just open a contact when they sense something.
A simple Zigbee leak sensor, with wires, attached to the sensor leads, could be all that is needed to get the obstruction sensor status into Hubitat. Or any dry contact sensor device.
I’m reading this connected topics and I’m not sure IF I understand correctly.
RATGDO is a device? Or the type of device?
So anyway I need kind of shield/curtain and Connect it with RATGDO into HE?
Sorry for so silly questions? I’m not an expert.
Thanks for explanations.
Yes RATGDO is a device that connects to the Garage Door Opener which than allows the GDO to connect to Habitat- About – ratcloud llc
I think it would be helpful to better understand what you currently have for a GDO and if it is using the standard obstruction sensors (beam at the bottom of the rails) which is typically a standard setup depending on where in the world you are.
There are other options for connecting GDOs to Hubitat again depending on your setup.
I am using Konnected GDO - Smart Garage Door Openers – Konnected.
The infinity shield is a replacement for the standard obstruction sensor single beam which is connected to the GDO.
In my case and as in the other thread was being discussed the obstruction sensor or shield are directly connected to the GDO. So when there is an obstruction the GDO will not close or stop closing. This is "required"/code in the US.
I have Tuya smart ZigBee controller with contact sensor.
So I understand that I have to buy Infinity Shield and another device to connect all together? Or connect the shield to this garage device which is opereting the door (this you call GDO - or GDO you call the smart devices like Tuya?) and then operate it with Tuya? Can someone skatch the connection map? I’m completely lost.
I leave in Poland. I don’t have any obstruction sensor connected to my doors. They can easily close and destroy anything I want to change it + some nice automations. Syren connected for now I like a lot
Sorry GDO=Garage Door Opener. This is the Motor that physically opens and closes the garage door. I am assuming yours doesn't have any way to connect obstruction sensors to it which is why you are asking for ideas? Not familar with what brands/makes of openers are used in Poland.
RATGO/Konnected are a smart devices like the Tuya controller. Not sure if these will be compatible with your opener.
The Infity Sheild or a single beam obstruction sensor can be connected direct to the RATGO but as others have pointed out above it would be much better to have the obstruction sensors connected directly to the garage door opener if possible.
Maybe this page will help you visialize the wiring, this is specifically for RATGO - ratgdo
Addendum: I just measured my Infinity Shield rails, and the bottom-most sensor is 3 1/2 inches from the end of the rail. My rail sit on the floor, so the maximum I could raise my rails and stay within that 6 inch requirement would be 2 1/2 inches.
Slight correction, the Infinity Shield sensor connects directly to the garage door opener. It replaces the one that comes with GDOs. If you have a MyQ or LiftMaster GDO then a RATGDO can be connected to the GDO and will have awareness of the beam sensor being obstructed or not plus give you complete control of the GDO including the light.
