Mine has been very reliable until lately. It has gotten flaky. If I did a periodic refresh it would have to be every few seconds. Otherwise the presence wouldn’t be of much use. I was mainly looking for the refresh to do a manual refresh to help figure out what is goin on.

I'd check to see if battery optimization is enabled. Android really cracking down on app usage.
