Now Supporting Matter: Seamless Smart Home Connectivity

What’s New:
Our 4th generation thermostats, S40 and L40 — now support Matter!
What is Matter?
Matter is a new universal smart home protocol that enables devices from different brands to work together seamlessly across platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.
Why It Matters:
Matter compatibility allows our thermostats to integrate effortlessly with smart home platforms like Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and more — with no hubs or extra integrations required.
How It Works:
Users can view and adjust temperature settings directly from their preferred smart home app — without touching the thermostat. For full feature access, they can still use their thermostat or the Lennox Home App.

Unfortunately, they didn't provide any documentation on how to obtain a Matter pairing code. I'll have to go poke around to see if there's something on the thermostat to generate one.

Based on Chamberlain's latest move, hell will freeze over before they open up Matter (or at least open up anything genuinely useful via Matter).

What did they do now?

I just bought several of the Konnected IO Blaq boxes during their sale. Now I need to climb up there an connect them. I'm sick and tired of the slow Chamberlain app with advertisements spread across across the top!

Released v3 security which will prevent RATGDO, Konnected, and other devices from working. This will come out on new openers, from what I understand not existing ones. Just to be safe I disabled internet access to my GDO after installing my RATGDO.

My advice is to velcro it beside the door button. I just pigtailed to the door button with short wires. No ladder, no moving the car out of the garage, and all that.

That also helps if you need to do an update on the Blaq, and it won't do an OTA update. You can either plug in your laptop at ground level, or you can easily remove it and do it in the warm/cool house.

Well, poo on them. Unfortunately, Chamberlain owns the garage door opener market. There really isn't anyone else.

Because of that, they think somehow they are going to own the rest of the home security market. I don't know anyone who's bought into their security cameras and door bells.

They really have no competitive advantage in locking their stuff down. All it is is pissing people off and beginning Chinese competitors to come in and knock them out.

Huh? Genie is (and always has been) a well-established and widely-available option to Chamberlain.

Sure. Ok. From my reading, RATGDO has much better control over Chamberlain products vs Genie.

Your own graphic shows that there are plenty of available GDO alternatives to Chamberlain/Liftmaster.

There's no real advantage to using a RATGDO on a non-MyQ opener. RATGDO was developed expressly for MyQ openers, so of course it will give better control of a MyQ opener vs Genie.

Lol. Ok. They are the market leader for a reason.

Ratgdo can do much more with my Liftmaster than just open or close it.

Sounds like your all set with Chamberlain then - bully for you!

For example?

It reports if the Light is on/off, if the obstruction sensor is blocked/clear, allows you to lock/unlock the door. As well as report the detail door status, open/opening/close/closing.
Looking at the obstruction sensor reports, I can actually "see" both sets of car wheels, entering/leaving the garage (not really sure what to do with that, but hey..)

Basically report & allow control of everything the door supports without adding additional hardware/sensors, etc.

I am, thank you! And if you read reviews comparing Liftmaster to Genie, Liftmaster wins every time over quality and reliability.

Do the company politics suck, yes. But reliability of my door openening and closing when it's -20 takes precedence.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have an outlet near a couple of my buttons, so maybe I'll install the Blaq next to the outlet and just run the signal wires over.

I love this feature of the RATGDO. I use mine as a “motion” sensor and if the Lux value of my Tempest is below a certain value obstructing the beam will turn on the overhead lights in the garage (I disabled the lights on my GDO so they don’t turn on). I also have a Zigbee LED strip light that will turn red when the beam sensor is obstructed and green when not to make sure we pull far enough into the garage. I prefer to be as close to the door as possible so we can walk in front of vehicles.

And a great upgrade to the beam sensor is the Infinity Shield. The beam gets obstructed when our SUV hatch is open so we cannot close the door on it.

Some good ideas, thank you. I also like that Infinity Shield product.

I'm going to turn my lights on when the door opens as well.
