Led strip mounting for home gym

So building out the home gym for my wife. Have plenty of phillips hue strips (rgbw). So my thought process is building an L channel out of wood (painted) about 12" below the ceiling all the way around so the lights diffuse up the wall to the ceiling. Am I on the right track or do any of you have better ideas?

I would suggest putting the LEDs on aluminum channels if they are going to be embedded in the wood to help with heat.

I have done exactly that in a couple of spots in my house. It looks great!

Not sure if it makes a difference, but I used silver/chrome spray paint inside to help with the reflectiveness.

I added some plugs behind them on the wall at each corner to power the LEDs. I also made sure that those plugs could be connected to a switch in case that was ever required in the future.

Once the channels are in place, the LED strips can just be laid down in them - no need to glue them.

I also have a closet on the other side of one of the walls, so made a hole between the two rooms, again in case I ever need it…

What is that? 1x6? Top painted to match the wall?

That’s correct. I paint it, then put it op on the wall, first it got nailed in to ensure that it stays in place, then I added some screws that to to the studs for added adhesion. Probably not needed, but hey, why not! I pre-built the “L” and I either nailed or screwed it in the plate - I just can’t remember anymore… If you have joints, I recommend that you glue them together and be sure that the joints on the “L” don’t line up with those on the wall plate.

Once everything is together, I added paintable cocking to make everything look nice and put a final coat on the cocking and hole filler.

I’ve seen on Amazon crown molding with a channel in it for LED strips.

The hook up has some info about this:

I think for the hidden lighting I'd still go with the L-channel like @Sebastien to bounce the light off the ceiling. That said, I'll be doing channels for the outside of the house once I get a chance to work on putting up the permanent holiday lighting.

Or a 45 degree shallow diffuser which is kind of the same thing but with a cover.. You could probably use it without the cover and a higher count LED strip.

I have a bunch of phillips hue strips I'm gonna throw up there so that they'll pulse with my wife's pelaton workout vids...

Nice! I think my wife would HATE that sadly.. now my daughter - she wants LEDs all over her room. Currently all her lights are Sengleds which she keeps keeps some red and some blue. Wonder if some strips under her bed that pulse to music (only at certain times!!!) would be fun...

The Phillips hue bridge can react to music so it can be integrated for her workouts

I meant she wants LED Strips.. sorry.

Her main light and bedside table light bulbs are already Sengled Color+ tied to an old RGBGenie Remote and using the HE Mirror app. The setup is working decently enough - remote is a little flaky but for her purposes is fine.
