Leak Sensors not on wifi that work native with Apple (or maybe Alexa) but will also work with HE?

I'm thinking of giving a family member leak sensors for Christmas, however they do not yet have a Hubitat.

I figure as soon as the HE user interface gets a more user friendly UI I will be successful in bringing them into the fold. In the meantime they need leak sensors; the gift would be the leak sensors and setting them up. They are heavy into the Apple ecosystem, which I know NOTHING about having never in my life owned an Apple product, but they own Macs, Ipads, Iphones and Apple TV. They also have an Alexa, which I don't trust, but they do, and for leak sensors is probably ok. I'd like the sensors to be able to work with HE in the future, and their wifi is not great, so I'm very partial to Zigbee leak sensors. Any suggestions on what my options are?

A bit of googling indicates all the Apple products work off of wifi and not zigbee or zwave. If this is accurate, that leaves me with either Alexa, or buying a used C7, pairing the sensors to that and then making the user interface through Apple. Is the latter even possible or have I misunderstood?

Will the Alexa system pair with a zigbee sensor?

Any suggestions on zigbee leak sensors that can be plugged in?

I need to figure this out, order the parts then set it all up during the 3 days I'm at their house over the holiday, so I have to get the parts and interface correct prior to being there...any help appreciated.

Yes that is correct, and now also Thread.

Yes, there is a built in HomeKit integration you could use to share the devices to Apple Home.

Only if it is an Alexa device that has a Zigbee hub built into it (not all product have this).
