Hi, Looking for some suggestions on the following.
I want to use geofencing on my child's phone so the house doesn't shut down when we leave them home alone without giving them access to all devices.
-Currently I have Hubitat setup to shut off all lights and arm safety monitor when my wife and I are both gone.
-It's my understanding that geofencing requires the use of the Hubitat app.
-It's my understanding that you can not restrict device access to specific users.
Any suggestions on how to use the child's phone as a presence sensor without giving them access to everything?
You could use something like [UPDATED] iPhone WiFi Presence Sensor which works with both iPhones and Androids. It basically pings an IP address to see if there is a response. If there is a response, a virtual device is marked present. I use this with my wife and my phones along with automation in Apple Home to determine presence. It works really well and my wife does not have the Hubitat app installed on her phone.
I'm facing a similar situation since Life360 dropped support for their api.
Talking to a buddy, who takes up these kinds of challenges, he found a work around w/ the Tasker phone app, on his phone only.
His family all have Life360 on their phones so he gets the alerts on his phone when members come and go.
He says the Life360 app on his phone will send Tasker the messages, which in turn, go to his automations. He says Tasker has a steep learning curve, so be prepared to dig in.
Interesting work around......
