Kasa plugs

Hi

I have Kasa plugs HS 103 and HS 105 about 9 of them. 6 of them pair very well but somehow 3 I am unable to pair. I tried to pair them using LAN. Cloud. I built Kasa integration and user integration, checked the drivers too. It’s working on some and not on 3. Any advice how to add them to my C7 hub?

Thank you!

have you tried first closer to your router.. and also made sure you are on a 2.4ghz freq. as they dont work on 5.

the radios are not all that strong and especially for the sync during pair need have a strong signal in both the phone and plug.

you add them through the kasa app on your phone first.. and then later add them in hubitat.. you still can have them in the cloud via the kasa app and do local control in the hub.. you just need to get the ip address from your router they were assigned.. once assigned recommend you put the ip in a dhcp reservation as the hubitat kasa app does not like the ip changing.

Do the three you are unable to pair work with the Kasa app?

If they do not, make sure you first get them working with the Kasa app.

If they do work with the Kasa app, make sure they are in the same subnet as your Hubitat hub (and the other 6 Kasa plugs). If you have a mesh WiFi system, make sure they connect to the same mesh point as the 6 plugs that work. I believe this integration uses mDNS to discover the Kasa plugs, and some mesh systems do not bridge multicast traffic between mesh points.

First, you should only use one integration or you will confuse yourself. The built-in has the ability to do LAN discover with a backup of Cloud for devices not found during the LAN discovery.

Wifi discovery issues can be caused by several items:

  • The device was not installed via the phone app.
  • The device is on a different SSID (i.e., guest network) than the Hub and that SSID does not have full access on your LAN. You will have to reinstall the device or change the permissions for the SSID.
  • The device is on different segment (rarer - usually high-end routers).
    • The app has a tool to discover on multiple segments.
  • Your 2.4 GHz channel and Zigbee channel are interfering with each other. These overlap and can cause problems with the wifi devices.
    • Look on the web for articles on this.
    • If an issue, usually requires manual channel change for Zigbee (or wifi).
  • Your WiFi SSID is being interfered with by a neighbor's wifi. Especially true in apartments or closely packed houses.
    • You can use a free app like Net Analyzer. This will show overlaps with other wifi SSIDs along with signal strength.
    • Make sure you wifi channel is set to auto (if possible). This will allow it to jump away from interference on wifi (but not Zigbee).

Zigbee

I call that a brain fart. But more likely 75 year old brain.

Hi

So they work perfectly fine with Kasa and Amazon app. I do have a ORBI mesh router. I am able to see them on my LAN and cloud but they just don’t install

Hi

I have router mesh and pretty sure wifi signal is not The issue

I have removed the hubitat package manager integration.

The error log says that a device with same device network ID exists and please use a different DNI

So, you are installing the devices when already installed. Look on the devices page and you will find the existing devices. Also, look on the app page and remove all instances of the Kasa Integration and then start over.

Found the problem. Devices were in pending state under a different name
