STRONGLY RECOMMEND you turn off firmware updates on the TAPO and KASA devices used in Hubitat. Some new firmware updates are breaking the built-in Kasa and community Tapo integrations (individual devices). (1)
ALSO recommend you turn on the parameter "Third-Party Compatibility" to ON in the Kasa or Tapo phone app. (2)
TP-Link is locking down security with the latest and greatest. Two major impact to third-party integrations; including HUBITAT:
TPAP transition. Existing security and transport protocols will not work if a targeted device is upgraded. Current know devices that may be impacted include the Tapo P110 and Robovac 3 plus the Kasa HS300.
Third-Party At the same time, firmware updates are distributing a lock-out if the user has not selected Third-Party Compatibility in the Tapo/Kasa phone application.
People are working on a correction and when one is derived (the update is similar to that used for block chain security (buzz word)). When there is a solution, I will request permission to port over to Hubitat (if even feasible). A lot of nuances to the changes and in two months, no solution is completed.
Just looked in my app, sure enough many devices have updates. Doesn't seem to be any auto-update settings to turn off, so I assume I should be safe as long as I don't manually upgrade them.
I am trying to get a better definition. Looking at the TP-Link firmware site today, only about 3 - 4 devices are currently being "improved". So TPAP may be a slow roll out. The Third-Party Compatibility causes more issues - but an easy fix.
you have to turn auto-update on each device. Older devices are less likely than newer, If the setting is not offered, I think they will not update (old device or old HW Version).
thanks currently no auto updater option on older ie ep10s i assume if new app comes out it should be disabled (i hope) is turning on third party now going to break the current implementation?
All of my HS103 plugs have firmware updates available, though not the same firmware version for all the devices, but it's not automatically updating. It looks like I have to manually tell it to update. No auto update option available.
Of course, they are all working with HE so no updating is being done.
I have a number of Tapo Matter plugs...these. I bring them into HE via Matter over Wi-Fi, and don't use any of the HE Kasa/Tapo integrations. I assume that these are not affected by this issue, but wanted to confirm.
I had a few of them and had the same connection issues. I switched to the Homekit version and they have been great. They are an option if the matter ones act up again.
