Is your Telnet not working, heres thi fix

I always see posts about people having problems with their Lutron Telnet not working and I would venture to say most of us have. Happens about once every year or so to me and I have to try to remember how I fixed it, like today. So, I am posting this to help people and to have something for me to go to when it happens again.
For me, every time I’ve had the problem it’s been an IP Address problem, and I think it’s probably the most common problem, so with that here is the fix:

  1. You’ll need to check if your Lutron Bridge Device and the Lutron Telnet integration in Apps have the same IP Address.
  2. If you don’t have an IP Address Network Scanner, get one and start it up. It will list everything that is hooked up on your network and their IP Address. Check the IP Address of your Lutron Bridge and make a note of it.
  3. Next, go to Apps in Hubitat and click on Lutron Telnet. Verify that the Lutron IP Address in Apps is the same as the IP Address you made a note of.
  4. If they don’t match, change the IP Address in Apps and you should be good to go…
  5. That’s it, at least for me

Hope this helps everyone out.

Does the IP address of your Caseta smart hub change?

If it does, setting a DHCP reservation with your router is generally the best way to prevent that from happening (and downstream effects like a broken integration with Hubitat).

I set DHCP reservations for everything except laptops and cell phones. Hubs routers switches Sonos avrs the lot, anything that’s involved in automations,
In my case that’s over 80 devices, initially a pain but worth the effort in the end.

Same. Hubs, routers, servers, Sonos speakers, LIFX devices, Kasa devices, weather stations. All have DHCP reservations.

I reserve addresses for my family’s phones too.

Allows me to use the phones as arrival sensors with @jwetzel1492’s WiFi presence driver.

You’re a genius, I wish I’d found this months ago. Wrangling Hubitat when you’re now in you 60’s is like wrestling with an Octopus! Lol
