Is Tuya Zigbee different or special?

I'm considering picking up one of these Tuya open close sensors to try and make an occupancy sensor for my office chair to help control the lighting. Do these require a special driver or hub or anything? Or do they just pair like any other Zigbee device?

Since Tuya devices are such a crapshoot as to whether or not they will work, why not just get a Third Reality or Sonoff contact sensor? Tuya devices are made by many different manufacturers, so you can never be certain of what you are getting. I know that the Sonoff and Third Reality devices are supported by Hubitat built-in drivers. I have some Sonoff contact sensors (got them for $6 each from China a couple years ago). They are very cheaply built, but have been reliable. The Third Reality stuff is probably better quality for the money.
If you’re taking it apart, get the Sonoff. The board falls right out when you open the case :joy:

Is there a reason you need this specific device if you’re going to solder the wires from the pressure mat anyway?

I agree with @Ken_Fraleigh. Just get a sensor you know without a doubt will work with Hubitat unless you need this one for some reason.

Unrelated to your question, but

I had a problem with my office lighting. I had a single (Iris v2) motion sensor in the office space, near my wife's computer desk. It was about 10' away from my computer desk. I found when I was in the office alone, it would often not detect me. I thought about adding a sensor to the chair, but then I decided to just toss another motion sensor in the office, close to my computer desk. I just added both motion sensors to the lighting automations for the room. It now works 100%.

The only reason is because that what he used in the article, so i would be looking at the same thing. For that matter i have a Aeotec 7 door sensor hanging out I don’t use. Never really liked it. Would that be essentially the same with the reed switch?

My office has two motions sensors, a ring gen 2 and a Zooz Zse 18. I still have a tendency to have to flail my arms to keep things active. Was looking to get away from that.

You could just get a Linptech mmwave sensor. As long as you are breathing, it will see you.

Most likely. I guess for any given sensor you need to know which points to solder. But that shouldn’t be too hard to sort out in most cases.

I did basically the same thing. I threw a motion sensor under my desk. My legs and feet move enough to keep it active and I haven't had a light go out on me since I did it. There is still one above the entrance to my office too.

Edit: added picture of my solution:

Aren’t those mains powered? I’ve actually been interested in mmwave sensors, but the mains power is a problem. The finance department won’t allow wall worts and cords on the walls and ceilings.

Now thats an idea i didn't think of. I will try that.

This probably sounds bad, but i thought it was one lead on each end. How woul one determine where to solder?

Yeah in the case of a contact sensor with reed switch, it’s a point on each end of the switch.

USB A powered. ~7 ft cord. I use an old iPhone charger.

Boy that's an odd looking keyboard for the right hand screen. Are you an historian?

Hmm, gives a new meaning to "he's went lights out"

LOL - I was going to congratulate him on the retro look.

Haha. I suppose I did sort of give my profession away with that photo. Old school accountant who still can't get by without an adding machine.
