Is this doable?

Brief back story:

When our kids were virtual last year, they actually both showed a noticable improvement in school performance (they're 7 and 12). They both, however, had issues with staying focused and or motivated. We discovered that some level of involvement from us during the work day had a great effect on fixing that. They both enjoy knowing what Mom and Dad are hard at work doing.

Now, we have a school only room set up for them. I have a thought of some way for us to easily snap pictures of what we are doing from time to time (off road/high performance/general automotive tech and veterinary assistant) and have it show up on a wall mounted tablet that they can glance at. Sort of a private one way snap chat of sorts.

We have one tablet already running Fully Kiosk so that would probably be the go to for the second one.

Honestly I don't even know if this is doable but if it is I know this community would be able to.

What you could do is using Fully Kiosk, add Dakboard as the screensaver (free). Then setup dakboard to pull the photos from dropbox (or whatever cloud storage) and rotate through the photo's. Then all you have to do is take your picture and save it to a folder on your cloud storage and it will eventually show up in the screensaver.

I currently do this with Fully so that my tablet is a picture frame until I walk up to it.

This is the first thing I thought about. It would definitely work. I only wish it was more of immediate thing.

Everything is doable. It just depends on how much work is needed.

For example, if you had a local webserver you could up the photo to that and trigger that in Fully with the driver to load the url to the image.

Also, Fully does have api's to upload a file directly to it. But now you get a lot more complicated and just becomes more of a chore than fun.

If you use the dakboard option and just use the same file or two and keep overwritting them, then it will just flip between the two latest files for the kids to see. That may be the easiest thing to do.

May or may not be any different than what you could do with Dakboard, but just in case it helps - Nixplay smart photo frames might be a good, relatively cheap option for this. You can display photos from a select album/folder in Google photos or Dropbox. Currently you can only choose to show the latest 100 pictures. But if you snapped a pic, and then added it to a certain album in Google Photos (while deleting the existing photo in there), I suspect it would show right away. Maybe you could do the same thing with Dakboard but not sure since I don't have one.

I had the same thought. Less flexible than some other possibilities Iā€™m sure, but less effort to setup and maintain.

I've been using an old android tablet (Lenovo tab 3 7" essential) and run the 'Daydream' (also known as Android screensaver) to show photos from Google Photos.

Alternatively, use Google Nest home hub 2nd gen / Nest home hub max - you can do similar, although it'll be included with Google voice assistant (on which, you might not want this to be around the kids, as they could ask funny stuff from Google - although you can enable 'parental control' of it)
