Is there an app that turn caseta porch lights on ‘Better” than the lutron app

I have it set for dusk on for 4 hours through the lutron app. Is there a Hubitat app that can add something “cool?”. I donno what cool would be :joy:

You could add a lux sensor and turn on/off via RM? You would have to play around with the "trigger" values though.. at the very least have a gap between on/off values or get more sophisticated using some sort of smoothing algorithm.

Otherwise maybe switch to motion activated lights that are active at sunset to sunrise..

Is the light on a Lutron dimmer?

If so, you could set it to, say 50%, add a motion sensor and set it to come on to 100% when motion is detected, then back to 50% when not.

You could also have it slowly dim to 0, say for 10 minutes after you reach the 4 hour mark instead of just abruptly shutting its off.

You could also, with a motion sensor, have it turn on to 100% when motion is detected between sunset and sunrise.

@frmWink2Hubitat Agree with everyone here. Anything you want to do will work just fine in HE, the Lutron app doesn't need to do anything except add devices to the pro 2 hub.

It’s been a long time since I used the Lutron app for any automations. But will the automations run if the Caseta bridge has lost cloud connectivity?

If not, then I’d argue that alone is the only reason one needs to prefer Hubitat for automations, even very simple ones that other apps could handle.

The HE hub is the most flexible way to automate Lutron Caséta. It’s just a shame you cannot get around the 3 second delay when using non Lutron motion sensors. For a porch light this isn’t much of a problem, but for a bathroom light I found this unacceptable and had to use a Lutron motion sensor with the bridge directly to get the speed required. That has the disadvantage of one dim level for all times of the day, and that’s not ideal when you use the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Not sure what exactly you mean… My Iris Zigbee v2 Motion Sensors are used to trigger all of my motion-based automations, and they work instantly with my Caseta dimmers and switches. There is no 3 second delay whatsoever.

I can’t figure out how to get around it here. I did testing with the Caséta motion sensor triggering a proxy Lutron device to turn on the lights. I think I tried it with a Samsung sensor too, but now you have me questioning whether I mixed up my test results.

Thanks. Will have to retest this. Had a lot going on at the time and might have messed up the test.

Oh, if you were using a Caseta motion sensor, to trigger a Caseta proxy device, and that proxy device is what is used to trigger a Hubitat App to turn on Caseta dimmer, then yes I totally understand there being a delay.

This is because the Caseta motion sensor is hogging the Lutron Clear Connect RF network for at least 1 second, which causes the Hubitat command to the dimmer to have to wait.

Thus, using Zigbee motion sensors, I have no such issue. I have a Caseta motion sensor and I find it only truly useful when it is configured within the Lutron app to directly control a dimmer.

Note: the above issue is the exact same issue as trying to use a Pico remote to Hubitat to Caseta… you’ll see the same delay. Thus, Pico remotes that need to control Caseta devices, should be configured to do so in the Lutron app, not Hubitat. I use my Picos to control other lighting via Hubitat, such as Philips Hue or LIFX, or my Hampton Bay Fan Controller.

How I wish Lutron would let end users pick different ClearConnect frequencies with the Caseta Pro bridge (or the RA2 Select bridge) like they do with the RA2 main repeater.

I can easily justify spending another $200-300 for a second bridge that has PIcos and motion sensors, but not for a main repeater + training.

I picked up a used Radio RA2 Main Repeater on eBay for about $125 a while back. The entry-level online training is free, and allows for 100 devices.

Wow! Haven't seen anything near that price.
