I haven't found a solution for texts. "They" 're tightening up on that too.
I'm trying to stay away from things like "google api's", lol.
My generator sends me texts, my burglar alarm sends me texts, my thermostat sends me texts, my electric utility sends me texts, but my home automation hub does not send me texts. What's wrong with this picture?
It should be noted, as I mentioned above, that Hubitat is in fact capable of this using now entirely built-in tools (plus the Internet, I supppse, but you'll need that for this or any such solution to work at all in the first place too):
Not that I'd recommend this over push notifications without a good reason, as I'm sure some have.
Like i said, used to work for me, now no. They're tightening up. I'm just a normal guy, no domain, etc. Options are getting to nil, as the op noted with Twilio. Unless maybe you join the Google collective? But does it really Matter?
Moving the SMS vs. push discussion to the above topic to keep things clearer for the OP. (Who, it should be noted, we have not heard from since the first post.)
Original poster was not confused.
Twilio pulled the plug on non corporate users.
He's looking for an alternative SMS method.
Whoever posts on this thread should have a hands on approach on getting something to work.
Not just spout platitudes.
if hubitat would get tls or ssl over telnet working i could make sendmail work most likely for every provider.. the hold back is no security (ie tls ssl) so providers will not let you use their servers to send email.
Sorry I haven't chimed in here since I originally posted. Got busy on something else. Yes I've used pushover. But on critical things, text messages get more immediate attention from me, which I why I asked this question. Not for other non sms solutions.
See the two options I posted above. Both give you "real" SMS via email>SMS gateway of your ISP. E.g., for Verizon, email goes to [phonenumber]@vzwpix.com.
The Google Calendar option using a Gmail address to send the emails is nice in that you also get a cool integration w/Google Calendar, so a two-fer. Sendmail requires an email service that doesn't require SSL/TLS, so you may need to setup a separate email account to use it.
Oh, and as you noticed we can and will happily go on and on w/out the OP around to bother us.
I understand what you are saying. For instance I have outlook notifications turned off and keep Teams notifications on.
But in the case of pushover and the enhanced driver you have the ability to have unique sounds and a separate app for notifications. It would just require you to rewire your own โalertโ levels.
I donโt mean to be critical, just offering an opinion.

I tend to agree with the OP here.
Although I personally use pushover, and it's a great service, I find that among the vast majority of people, want notifications via SMS text messages. Maybe because "everyone" has it.
Regardless, I use various methods to send an email to the email->sms gateway of the cellphone provider.
There probably is some sort of security reason why Hubitat isn't allowing ssl/tls over telnet.
I get that if you want to (almost always - remember Rogers and more recently Optus over here) get uninterrupted notifications then the phone network is the way to go.
Otherwise I see no particular benefit to SMS TBH.
As I mentioned in the "other" thread home assistant apparently can send SMS's via a cellular modem and this might be another option and doesn't require internet to use a gateway service.
