Is There A Camera That Can Sense Motion Through Glass?

Do they sense motion without the typical infrared (?) technology?

Reason, is I'm wondering if there would be a camera that could be placed on the inside of a window, so no building penetration required.

New stuff for me. Thanks.

Sure. Most cameras do not rely on any sort of Passive Infrared (PIR) to detect motion, people, animals, etc. They actually analyze the images to detect changes and to attempt to identify the object in the frame.

One warning when trying to use a camera through glass. You will need to disable the cameras infrared emitters which it uses for 'night vision', as the IR light will not pass through the glass window. This means to monitor things at night, you will need to properly illuminate the target area with light.

Another issue that you will need to deal with in reflections from the glass window being in front of the camera.

So, while not ideal, it can be done as long as these limitations are not deal-breakers.

Excellent. Thanks much. Getting wires to the outside can be a big issue.

I bought some of these but haven't installed yet:

However, I bought the same for coax cable and it worked great.
