Lowe’s must be desperate to get rid of their Iris hubs, because they’ve been giving me a free one the last few times I’ve purchased a kit of smart plugs and motion sensors. I now have a collection of three unopened hubs. Can these be utilized in any way with my hubitat hub? Not sure if there are any sensors in there that the hunitat lacks, or if it’s possible to integrate the two.
If you use Iris Smart Plugs with downlevel firmware, they will receive firmware updates if you join them to the Iris V2 hub (probably will be useful for firmware updates for other Iris V2 sensors as well; the ST hub seems to be able to update Zigbee firmware on the Iris motion and contact sensors but not the plugs).
Could you elaborate on what you mean by "downlevel firmware"? I've only used the default Generic Zigbee Outlet device type.
If you join the Iris Smart Plug (3210-L)to the SmartThings hub, it will show their firmware level when you look at the device details page in the ST IDE. I don't think Hubitat supports viewing this. This firmware is used (in low-level hardware functions of the device) by any device driver that is compatible with this device.
On ST, most of the Iris plugs I own showed current firmware level 0x20015010 and target firmware level 0x20015010 (so there is no update being offered by the ST cloud). The most recent Iris plug I purchased showed f/w 0x20085010, which is also the firmware level being pushed by the Iris V2 hub according to this thread: A Warning About Iris Smart Plug Z-Wave Repeaters - Devices & Integrations - SmartThings Community (see the Jan. 3rd post near the end). Though its a Zigbee controlled outlet, the firmware update seems to have improved the Z-Wave functionality (it's a Z-Wave Plus repeater as well).
I don't own an Iris hub so I'm just going by what I read there. Would have loved to receive a free one when I bought my last Iris sensor pack a few months ago, just for this reason.
I did find that my Iris V2 motion sensors and contact sensors (the few I have remaining on my ST hub) had a firmware update pushed by ST around the June timeframe of this year. I would assume if ST is doing it, Iris would also be updating their own sensors attached to their hub.
Thanks. From reading that thread, it sounds like my plugs might already be on the latest firmware. One of the changes listed was the plug no longer blinks when pairing the z-wave repeater. None of my plugs blinked when pairing (which actually made things quite confusing at the time).
The newer plug firmware does blink, but it's a single blink, pause instead of a double blink (at least that 's what I saw on my newest plug). It's possible you have yet another, newer version which changed this behavior. Or maybe it paired so quickly it didn't have time to cycle the light.
Hmm. I’m pretty sure mine didn’t blink. They definitely didn’t to signify they were ready to pair. Below is the release notes I read that made me think it meant mine are up to date.
Ah, you're right. I see that it says no visual feedback. I did my pairing back in February of my unit with that firmware level; my memory must be faulty though I thought I saw at least one flash when I initiated pairing.
It's good that you got the latest firmware with your purchase. My most recently purchased plug came as part of an iris security pack in an old dusty box with old firmware. But at least it was a good deal.
