Back a while ago I posted on this topic. It seemed to resolve and the topic was closed. Well, here it is again.
I have two Iris V2 Smart Fobs, model # 3450-L. These have been solid performers, both for the four buttons and for presence detection, at least until the past two days.
I had been using them on a C7 hub, but recently migrated them to a
C8 Pro hub. They seemed to transfer and work with no issues. However, yesterday, both reported that they were not present, so my away rule was triggered. The HSM started arming for Away mode. My wife or I have been able to catch it so far and disarm the system via the dashboard or one of the keypads. However, if we don't get to it before the delay, we will not enjoy the siren.
I have replaced the battery in mine which was reading lower than 50% but my wife's was 75%. The new battery reported 99%, but with this latest round, it is now reporting 49%. Something is seriously amiss!
In order to get them to be recognized as present, I have had to remove and replace the battery in each device two or three times. I have also selected the option to reboot the Zigbee radio. I had rebooted the hub also.
I can't have this happening. Is it something in a recent update which is manifesting this? Is it the C8 Pro hub? What am I not seeing?
I removed the two Iris V2 Smart Fobs from the C8 Pro hub and installed them instead on the C5 hub. I then linked them with Hub Mesh. I will see if they behave. If they do, then I think the issue is with the C8 Pro hub. If not, then I will suspect the two fobs. However, it would be rather strange for two of them to misbehave at the exact same moment.
@bobbyD Please see above posts. Both hubs are on the same firmware, 2.4.0.145. Since moving the Iris V2 Smart Fobs to the C5 hub, they have stayed connected. Why the problem with the C8 Pro hub?
Also, I had a spare Iris V2 Smart Fob, 3450-L. I paired it with the C8 Pro hub. It showed present for a while, then showed as not present. I thought it might be the battery, so I put a new one in. It showed present at 1/05/2025 19:24:25.367 with the battery showing at 100%.
At 1/05/2025 23:42:33.920, it showed as departed, even though it has not moved from the desk where I placed it. Meanwhile, the two that I paired with the C5 hub have behaved as expected and have not shown any inconsistencies. Since both hubs are running the same firmware, I do not expect that the firmware is the issue. It seems to be the C8 Pro hub that is having an issue with these Smart Fobs.
I admit these are not a current item and are nearly impossible to find. However, I have grown to rely on them for presence detection. I had tried geofencing with my phone, but found it less than reliable. That was a number of firmware versions ago, so the situation may have changed. However, I still prefer the Smart Fobs and would like to have them be reliable on the C8 hub as I had isolated my Iris V1 devices with the C5 hub so they would not cause issues with the Iris V2 and newer devices which are on the C8 Pro hub.
Free bump.
Plus, it's zigbee, right?
Correct. I had mentioned rebooting the Zigbee radio in my first post.
@bobbyD It seems to be 4-5 hours that the Smart Fob reports as arrived before showing as departed, even though it has not moved from the spot where I placed it after getting it to arrive again.
Plus, the new battery I installed yesterday that was reading 100% is now as of 1:45 pm Monday, reading 49% That is certainly not normal behavior.
@mike.maxwell Is there anything you can suggest to get the C8 Pro hub to work with the Iris V2 Smart Fob reliably?
@bobbyD @mike.maxwell
This is consistent. The Iris V2 Smart Fob will connect. After a couple of hours, it will report as departed, while never moving out of the spot where I placed it in the same room as the C8 Pro. I can remove the battery, replace it, and repeat, and eventually, it will report as arrived, only to depart a couple of hours later.
This really is unacceptable.
can you verify this issue is specific to a C8?, meaning can you join one to your C7 and see if it's reporting consistently...
It was, then my fob started misbehaving there. My wife's fob is behaving correctly on the C5 hub (C7 is retired until I migrate the C5 to it).
I ended up removing mine and decided to try the app's geofencing. I was not impressed when I tried it a few years ago, but I think the current app probably is much improved over the earlier app.
I still prefer the Smart Fob over the phone and geofencing. Up until recently, it was reliable.
I'll dig one out of my samples and see if I can see what's going on with it on a C8

Model PGC410EU has been in testing for 24 hours so far and is reporting correctly.
Wll continue to monitor
I'm not familiar with that model. The ones that were causing me issues are 3450-L. If you don't have one of them, I could send one to you.

I do not have one of those, I do have an older model PGC410 that I just added for testing.
It has been a while and I got busy and forgot about it. If you have not gotten a 3450-L from other source, let me know. I have one here that I can send to you. I would just need to get your address.
To continue this discussion, I think the issue is not the C8 Pro hardware, but the 2.4.x firmware.
My formerly rock-solid Iris V2 Smart Fobs have been unusable since the 2.4.x updates. Presence has become unreliable and they have been dropping from the Zigbee mesh. I could re-pair them until 2.4.2.129 when I could not even get them to pair and start working again.
Thanks to another thread, I found how to downgrade my C8 Pro huib to 2.3.8.140 and my Smart Fobs are smart again, remaining present while at home and buttons remaining functional. I am glad to get them back, but it leads to a question.
What changed with the platform updates from 2.3.x to 2.4.x that could cause my Zigbee devices to not function properly? Something obviously has changed, or my devices would not be malfunctioning with the 2.4.x updates.

I'm not aware of any changes that would have caused this. Can you post a picture of the device in question?, I may have one that I can test with.
It is the Iris 3450-L Smart Fob.
.
I have one I can send you if you need to experiment. All I know is that I was having nothing but problems with the 2.4.x firmware and reverting to 2.3.8.140 appears to have fixed it as since I reverted, presence is working and the buttons are responding. To add to this, phone presence was also a bit flaky with the 2.4.2.129 where my wife's phone would show as not present even though it had not moved from the house. I will be observing over the next few days and will report here if the 2.3.8.40 firmware keeps working.
That would indicate it's a problem with the fob itself. Have you tried moving your wife's fob to see how it behaves on the c8?
