I am trying to remove and re pair my Iris V1 contact sensors on the C5. It keeps creating devices and sometimes adds the device, but does not have the correct features or icon. I have tried to add some of the devices several times. I've had to pair them about 6 times or so to get them to work correctly. I have followed the factory reset for each device prior to adding a device. I never had this much trouble before when I first bought the C5. I need help.
What driver is it selecting?
It is empty and I have to manually change it to Iris V1 contact sensor.
Empty? That shouldn't happen. Do you mean "Device"? And did you follow the instructions on that page, including running "Configure" after changing? (You might also need to just re-pair in place after doing this, i.e., without removing first, in case these devices aren't listening for commands like most Zigbee HA devices do.)
It may be time to retire the Iris V1 devces. I finally retired the last of mine, which were V1 outlet plugs. They started falling off the C7 and did not want to re-pair. I have only one Iris V1 device remaining which is a keypad. Since the keypad migrated from the C7 to the C8 Pro hub, I've been able to keep using it. However, if it does fall off, then it is likely that it will have to be retired also.
Even my Iris V2 Smart Fobs stopped working properly, not sensing presence. I've just had to retire them also.
That's odd. These are ZHA 1.2 devices. I have two or three of these on a C-8 Pro, without any issues.
I had this confused for another device - my bad!
They become non-responsive. Button presses are not recognized, and they are reporting as not present. Factory resetting and pairing recognizes them as previously paired. However, they still are not responding, even with a fresh battery. Prior to the 2.4.x version of the firmware, they were much more reliable although periodically, they would drop out.
It would be nice to have them updated to Zigbee 3.0 which would probably be more reliable.
I just realized we are talking about totally different devices - entirely my fault. I didn't read your post correctly/carefully.
Sorry!
I have 2 of these and they are super repeaters. In the Zigbee map app they have all very solid connections. I don't really like/use the plug function, because they are huge & ugly but keep them in attic & basement as super signal repeaters.
I think there is a bug in the past few releases regarding the Iris V1. I can't find my notes right now, but if you roll back a few major releases, they pair instantly and work fine. I wish I could tell you exactly which release (I can't find my notes at the moment), but I think it was 2.3.7 or 2.3.8 that worked, and everything newer fails.
It was before the UI change release that it worked, I just can't remember how much further back I had to go. I will update if I can find my notes where I tried every single release.
Found them. It was 2.3.8.140 and earlier where it works, and 2.3.9.xxx and newer all fail.
@mike.maxwell - were there any (incidental) Iris V1 changes made in 2.3.9 and later that might explain the observations in this thread?
I moved all my V1 devices from a C5 to a C7 late last year, around Sept I think. This post describes what I had to do. I was able to get all my V1 devices re-connected. It was not an easy task then, it was a bit frustrating, but I did get them all connected. Much easier when I first connected them several years ago. If any recent updates have made it worse you may be out of luck.
As mentioned by @StephenH , I want to retire all the V1 devices I am trying to buy replacements a little at a time. So far though they all still work and work well. I hate to lose them as battery life on these old V1 devices is some of the best of any devices I have ever owned.
Which leads to the question of where I can find 2.3.8.140 since there have been multiple updates and I don't see it in the list of available rollback options on this C8 Pro.
The http://<hubIP>/hub/advanced/downloadPlatform/238
endpoint will make it available in the Diagnostic Tool after the few minutes or so it takes to download. You'll only see the last few versions, including one from the previous major release if available, by default. So if you've been staying up to date on 2.4.2 (or anything close), your existing list isn't surprising.
That might work for previous hubs. I get an "incorrect version" message.
It works on any hub running any platform version from the last couple years or so, at least. If that's not working for you, make sure there aren't any typos (possibly including spaces or slashes at the end, etc.).
no changes for pre C8 hubs
After rolling back to Platform version 2.3.7.145 I was able to install my V1 contact sensor on my C5 with ease. I have not been able to update approximately past this version. Every time I tried to update the hub would not work correctly. I would have to use my backup in order to get my hub working again, but the last time I tried to update was my downfall. The same situation happened where the hub was not responding so I tried to use my backup from 2024. It said that it was corrupt. I did not know that the back ups keep overwriting over old back ups. So I only had one from 2024 that I thought would still work. Iβve done soft resets, and tried to use the backup but now I am back at square one having to redo the entire setup. This is so disheartening.
Here is a post where I was trying to get the hub to reinstall the back up, but after trying all of these steps I know that there is no hope using the one backup I had from 2024.
Okay. I was not waiting long enough as the cursor kept spinning. I let it go and eventually, it succeeded. I'm now on 2.3.8.140. Now to see if I can re-pair the Iris V2 Smart Fobs and have them stay working.
So far, so good. Reverting to 2.3.8.140 has my Iris V2 Keyfobs working again and staying connected. Likely, reverting to it on a C5 hub would allow the V1 devices to pair again. However, the hardware of the C8 Pro has changed enough that my old V1 devices, with the exception of the V1 keypad which migrated, likely won't work,
I should likely find new homes for the old Iris V1 devices for someone who is still running them and would like them.
