Our internet has been out since about 11:00 this morning. My HE app won’t open, and if it does it won’t connect locally so I can’t use the local dashboards via the app.. Homekit is showing all. My hubs off line ir now no response. I CAN still control devices via the device page. This all doesn’t seem right. Shouldn’t I still have regular control over the local devices? I understand the cloud stuff being out, but local? Also, isn’t HomeKit also supposed to be local? Confused.
HomeKit is largely cloud based so it showing as offline doesn’t surprise me (should have some local Siri control if you have a home hub/mini hub). The phone app the last time I checked had an issue where it wasn’t changing over from the cloud connection when local. All that aside, you should be able to open a browser and navigate to the hub dashboard.
The way the mobile app works now is that it has to check in with the hub from time to time to get a token, and if it's been "too long," that won't work, even if you are local. This is on the list of things to address (I'm not sure why it is this way right now, but I assume it's because the initial exchange is done via cloud, perhaps after you log in -- which naturally requires it -- and select the hub.)
For now, you'll need to use the regular interface, a dashboard, or other solution if this happens.
As for HomeKit, that should be local, unless you're using any of Apple's optional cloud features like out-of-home control. Even then, I assume it should just be that piece that won't (can't) work. However, some people notice that the HomeKit integration for the hub occasionally stops working for other reasons, which recent platform updates have aimed to address. I suppose it's hard to tell now, but are you sure that this couldn't be your problem instead? Restarting the HomeKit service on your hub (or rebooting the hub) might help.
I have Home Hub set up on an AppleTv. For a while it was actively saying the hubitat bridges (hubs) were not connected. Once I rebooted the router, it stopped showing that and all the devices were just not responding.
I actually rebooted all the hubs and the router. The only thing I didn’t restart ?at the time) was the AppleTv that HomeKit is on.
I didn’t realize that about the new app, and admittedly didn’t try accessing the dashboard through the local web interface, just individually controlled devices from the device page.
Even once everything finally came back online, I was tinkering with something else, and HomeKit won't allow me to add any accessories (devices). If I touch the + to add accessories, nothing happens. I'll try restarting it in the morning and see if that makes a difference.
