Been living with IKEA’s new Matter smart home lineup for two weeks straight. Motion sensors, door and leak sensors, Kajplats bulbs, Dirigera hub, the whole thing.
In this video, I test how these $10 IKEA sensors stack up against more expensive options like Aqara and the Philips Hue motion sensor. Same room, same conditions, side‑by‑side tests for reliability, response time, accuracy and range.
Is this your YouTube channel?
No, I just thought it was interesting.
I might be going to IKEA today to give it a try on some of the products
It’s a little confusing because the thread title doesn’t specify who tested the products and you’re using first person pronouns in the OP without a note of explanation that you found content on YouTube made by someone else and are sharing here.
Thanks for sharing.
I thought the video was quite interesting.
My take on this. I got several Ikea thread matter devices. Pairing with Apple Home works great. But adding them to HE not so great. HE doesn't seem to want to work well with them. So far I just use a Home automation to trigger virtual devices in HE which has worked out ok.
Very confusing, I thought the same, that this was @WarlockWeary's testing/videos. Best to change the topic title and wording in the OP, Warlock, so folks don't confuse things.
Have a little extra time this morning, so off to watch the videos... ![]()
What do you suggest I change it to? That's the videos. Actual. Name.
If it was me I'd modify the topic title, something like:
Found: Some interesting videos comparing new Ikea Matter devices w/Aqara & Hue
OP:
This guy's testing looked interesting and helpful, he compared the new Ikea Matter sensors to others from Aqara and Hue.

Putting the youtuber's words in quotes help to ID that the comments are his, not yours. ![]()
It’s confusing as long as the word “I” appears in the OP, without any mention of that “I” representing another person (i.e. the creator of the YouTube video) rather than the person who made the post.
A simple explanation that all the text in the OP was (presumably) pasted from the YouTube channel itself would have gone a long way.
Just bought ..

Be fun to try it out ![]()
TL;DR version of the two videos: Everything about these new IKEA devices is excellent. For anything beyond simple automations, you need a hub other that IKEA’s.
Let me know how the leak detector works out. Tempted to replace some of mine, mainly due to cheaper batteries.
Curious, so when you pair with Apple Home, and then share the pairing with Hubitat it’s not working properly?
Very good videos. Does seem to be a truly experienced user, not a pretend “smart home expert”.
Only thing that made me raise an eyebrow was that he said “I learned something” in regard resetting devices and rebooting the hub when he had trouble pairing. It’s pretty hard to already have an entire smart home filled with Zigbee and Z-Wave devices, but not already know that you need to reset and/or reboot the hub when you have a pairing issue. That’s smart home 101.
I have been reading up on these devices, mainly on Reddit, and there are a lot of frustrated users, probably for various reasons.
Let's say I wanted to try these devices in my ecosystem, should I buy the Dirigera to act as the border controller, or should I go with Google Nest?
Will Dirigera integrate well with Hubitat at this point in time?
I am also still mildly confused with how this Matter stuff actually works and have been contemplating if it would be easir to just switch Kajplats into Zigbee mode (12x reset) and forget about Matter for some time..
You do not need to buy the Dirigera hub, provided you already have another hub that acts as a Thread Border Router (the Google Nest hub).
You might want to wait for the next HE platform update (2.4.4.x), which is expected to improve the performance of Matter devices, including Ikea's.
And yes, the Matter technology still does not work as reliably as the time-proven Z-Wave and Zigbee technologies, but it is getting better.
That’s correct. As long as I only have them paired with Apple home they work fine. Add them to HE and they initially work but after a day or so quit. I have tried a motion sensor and contact sensor. Both messed up. They would work for a while and then just quit. Most of the time they still worked in the Home app ok, just not HE. The contact sensor worked great for a day, then all of a sudden generated a ton of error messages in the log.
I have about 20 Tapo Matter Switches and Plugs that I paired with Apple then added to HE. They have been working great for some time. I occasionally had a glitch, but turned out I had a network problem.
As @kkossev says, hopefully the next hub update might help.
EDIT: I edited this post. I tried doing it on my tablet, but my fat fingers kept messing things up. So redid it on my computer now.
That is it, at the moment I don´t have a TBR (TBC?) and was wondering if I should go for the Dirigera, or just wait for the new Google Home speaker, most likely released in March.
Most likely I will just wait, it's probably "easier" (less complicated) to just use the Google device rather than a home automation platfrom.
You do have more options to consider. In my home, I had my choice of an Amazon Alexa device, my eero network, or my Apple TV (2022) as TBR. The eero is already thread version 1.4. I'm hopeful the new Apple TV (2026) will be as well. That way I can use both together expand the mesh.
True, but I am an Android guy, using Google and I don´t have any other devices that qualify (afaik), so almost a clean slate as my old Google Nest devices are pre-Thread.
