63 results for "ratgdo" search in the Hubitat forums. I'd guess that many in the Lounge have been down this rabbit hole.
I find it a bit ironic having to share with them my e-mail for a « free » account to read their article…
Good thing Apple’s got me covered on that front! ![]()
I have had a RATGDO for a few years now and absolutely love it. Before I had simple control of opening or closing the GDO along with a tilt sensor to know of the door was open or closed.
Now I have full control of the light, locking the remotes from working, status of the beam sensor, etc. Totally changed my garage automations in a big way.
And it's the New York Times so why bother

Every once in a while a blind squirrel finds a nut. And you can follow the link to The Atlantic article on borked printers.
At all related to this MyQ 3.0 crap?
Couldn't see much of the times article...
I still have to admire the marketing balls behind calling it a "Security" feature. ![]()
Lord knows I wouldn't want someone standing in my garage to be able to rip the button off the wall and twist the wires together to open my garage door...

I wish I had known about the open source firmware before tossing out my 2nd generation Nest thermostats. (I replaced them with Ecobees--I'm done with Nest, even with a discount.)
Brave to.. love speedreader mode.
Thanks @Ranchitat for that article, I'm starting a new house build this summer and was planning on getting the wall mounted shaft openers. When I read this article and saw videos on youtube about Security+ v3.0 coming to all new models. I did not take a chance and went at my local Canadian Tire and got 2 openers after opening the boxes and making sure I had the v2.0 version. They had them on sale for 650CAD but found next to them the same model with camera included (won't really use it but hey) and they were 600CAD. Saved 50$ and will have 2 cameras to throw away (maybe).
So I now have 2 wall mounted garage door openers and no garage doors, as of now, to install them on ![]()
Think you can buy them as a "gift" so the warranty start date is delayed... ![]()
That would have been a good idea but did not think of that, but since I have the CT MC card I did put on 24 months without interest so I don't get the big hit right off the bat.
Congrats on the new house build. I hope it goes well. We just finished in September with a custom house builder north west of Toronto.
I had them put in the liftmaster wall mount units. It was one of the items early on that I planned to take on but I ended up having to be selective on what I was signing up for. We are almost at the four month mark of being in the house and I just got the undercabinet lighting working a couple weeks ago.
I have two of the Konnected BlaQ controllers yet to install. Even if you had waited, I assume they will update the FW in them to support the v3 security… if they can reverse engineer it of course.
I am close to installing the controllers. I am now in the garage but the first thing on the list is the heater.
Any update on you GDO controller installation?
Yes I have both of them installed and they work great.
The second one just got installed a couple days ago. We are still trying to sell the old house and it’s taken up quite a bit of time lately.
There is another thread that I can’t find right now talking about how to install them - in parallel or inline with the switch. Somebody mentioned that inline caused issues with their button functionality. I installed both of mine inline and I have no issues.
I will add some pics of my install. I should have time later today.
I do miss that the closing is not immediate like I had with using the zen17 at my old place but safety first is ok too.
You have the option of about 20 different tunes to play. Some are shorter and I thought picking a shorter tune would make it quicker, but it seems that there is a hard coded 5 second wait time regardless of the tune length.
I am in Canada and I have not yet figure out how to open the door via Alexa. I do not seem to have the option to open with PIN code, so I think I am going to have to redo what I did at the old place and not expose the GDO to Alexa but just expose virtual buttons that will trigger open and closing. I’m sure I can hack the existing driver to add the capability, but it’s been some time that I have done driver/app coding and I was never that good in the first place.
One note. Your phone must be on the same 2.4g network for the Konnected app to talk to them.
I assumed once they were on the 2.4g network that my phone could be on the 5g and still have connectivity. Nope.
Now this could be my problem because I am using two separate vlans for each band but I don’t have any limitations between vlans set up yet. But it could be an IP issue between vlans.
Just a warning for those who see this thread. The new MyQ openers with a round WHITE learn button are Version 3.0 protocol and do not work with konnected blaQ.
They apparently moved to Bluetooth LE away from the 315mhz devices.
IF ANYONE HAS LATER INFO. PLEASE UPDATE.
@nate can you provide insight?
That's correct. Chamberlain/LiftMaster have gone out of their way to block out 3rd party controllers in their new Security+3.0 models, and that includes the Konnected GDO blaQ and RATGDO.
We're looking into a potential workaround that involves using an official Chamberlain/LiftMaster remote control and programmatically "pressing" the button to open/close the garage. This is not nearly as good as the direct wireline communication that the GDO blaQ and RATGDO employ.
My recommendation is, if you're in the market for a new garage opener any time in the next year, grab one of the remaining Security+2.0 (yellow learn button) models now while you still can.
