It’s been 10 years since I’d changed the smoke sensors to Nest. I started receiving alerts to replace and I ended up changing them to the Kiddie interconnected since Nest is no longer available. I looked up and have placed an order for a Zen 55. After installing the Kiddie sensors, I was testing them to ensure that they’re working ok and noticed that an Apple HomePod mini started sending me alerts that it heard an alarm and that I should check!!! I disconnected my phone from WiFi, repeated the test and I received the same alert from the HomePod!!
It was interesting to see that HomeKit is distinguishing between the sounds!!!
It's a feature I used on Echo Dots before that feature went paid. Then got a Zen55 too.
You can also configure which devices continuously listen for smoke and CO alarm sounds. Home Settings -> Safety & Security -> Sound Recognition
The feature has been too new for me and I already had the Zen55, so I guess redundancy.
Which reminds me, my interconnected Kiddies just hit 11 years. Time to change. Thanks for the reminder!
Although the ZEN55 differentiates between smoke and CO.
Thanks... I noticed that too
BTW - Home depot offers bulk discount (4+) on the Kiddie interconnected sensors.
Just installed the the Zen55 and tested it. It differentiates between Smoke and CO alarms from the Kiddie. Back to being connected and informed at a much lower price point than the Nests!
That it does. It was nice to hear the Kiddie yell, "Smoke" and "Carbon Monoxide" during a test cycle, and the Zen55 showing the same alerts!
You like the talking alarms? I've never had one. Maybe in 7 years, lol.
Went with the Nest years ago, to keep the Smoke detectors in the same Nest ecosystem. Having them announce the room name, even during the monthly automated test cycles, was a good thing
Cousin installed detectors from Costco (doesn't seem to be available now) that also announced the room. They even came with adaptors to connect to whichever "plug" type was already there.
Do you have the link to the Home Depot ones? I can only find 4-pack of Innolink.
I went with this hardwired Smoke + CO detectors with 10 year battery.
I also added one hardwired Smoke + CO detectors with 10 year battery & voice alerts, so we can hear it yell
I still have a few years on my Nest Protects. I really like the path light feature which the others do not have. My home is wired for detectors with Inter connect wiring. When it's is time I will must likely add in a ZEN55 too.
I liked the path lights on the Nests. Last year, I went ahead and pickup a couple of the Snap Power lights for rooms without a smart motion detector
