New install of Novelli Zwave Smart Dimmer and when it is off my lights are pulsating on and off. Is there a fix for this. I did a factory reset but still doing it. Thank you...
This isn't really a Hubitat issue, so you might have better luck posting on the Inovelli Community. However, it's a pretty common problems with dimmers and LED bulbs. Are you using a neutral wire? If not, what is the total wattage of your load? You may need a bypass installed in parallel with the lights to prevent this (I think it's something like 25W and under need one, and the bypass brings this down to 6W).
If you are using a neutral, the behavior is a bit odd and bypass might still solve it but shouldn't really be necessary; Inovelli or other community members there may have more ideas. I have seem with some parameters, possibly the one that specifies the neutral setup, that people have seen the need to change them to something else and then change them back before the switch/dimmer will really apply them (even though I think "neutral" is the default). You may wish to try that. I'm assuming you're using Inovelli's drivers for these, which expose the neutral setting as a preference. Maybe something you could try!
It's also possible your bulbs just don't play well with this dimmer. Inovelli used a new manufacturer (to them) for these, and they don't appear to have known ahead of time exactly which bulbs will behave in which ways. You may have better luck with a different model or brand, so while unfortunate, that is something you could also consider trying. There is a thread on the Inovelli forum where people are sharing compatibility successes or failures they've had with the dimmers and specific bulbs.
Are you using a neutral wire? If not, you need to add the load balancing part provided in their documentation. I think it's like 14$ or close. Your lights will do this if you are not using a neutral.
sorry @bertabcd1234 i missed that you mentioned that.
I saw this several years ago when I got non-dimmable LEDs by mistake. It could also be a mixture of dimmable and non-dimmable.
Thanks....IDK but after an hour or so they stopped blinking....lol
yup...using neutral wire
Have you checked your device configuration to see if itβs set to Non-Neutral in the firmware? Not sure if it makes a functional difference or not, but you may want to check that itβs set to Neutral and hit configure.
Thanks....perhaps it is the bulbs....for some reason it stopped blinking after an hour or so....the blink was a very short pulse and each of the five bulbs in the fixture would do this independently.....
Thanks for the reply....the culprit turned out to be the LED bulbs. Replaced them with those antique looking clear LED bulbs I had and it works fine now....they were guaranteed to be dimmable....
That was the problem....IDK but maybe the dimmer is a little fussier about the bulb design....thanks....
