IKEA Ormanas Hack

Folks,

I'm fast understanding that IKEA products are reliable and inexpensive too.

That aside, their LED strips are dreadful but their Ormanas controller is equalled that of their smart bulbs and very reliable.

If you wish for reliability and better colour from your RGBW LED Strips then throw away the Ikea strip, keep the controller and then piece them together with a different LED strip as shown. NB, I have no idea why the wiring colours don't match but it works best in this combination.

Happy hacking. Please report back!

what led strip have you gone with, I recently picked up one of these ikea strips and was very disappointed with the led strip itself.

It was just a conventional RGBW led strips from eBay. This sort of thing SMD 5050 RGB CCT LED Strip Waterproof 12V 24V CCT RGBW white string light 1m 5m | eBay

Then you don’t really use a long strip do you? I already switched the default one with a 19W power supply but changing the strip to a better one (eg 60led/m, unfortunately the IKEA one has too less leds to look nice) will have higher power demand so I am in a situation where I should have a bigger power supply. (I need a 6m strip)
I don’t really need RGBW though only white but want to have IKEA controllers because of what you mentioned in the original post.

Hi, my strip is around 4m and I think it's a 50led/m
