Ikea Bilresa button compatibility

The Ikea Bilresa button is now available. Will this be compatible with Hubitat?

I'm sure some day it will be. Right now, it's possible but I'd almost guarantee not out-of-box (I can't even tell if it's Zigbee or Thread; if it's Zigbee, it would probably need a custom driver, and if it's Matter over Thread -- all they say is "Matter," but it's not clear if they mean that or using their hub as a Matter Bridge -- then there are some odd issues with many button devices right now that are likely to get sorted out in a future release, though it's also possible, even if unlikely, it could work now).

To paraphrase...he's not sure.

Ikea site says:

This smart product uses the universal standard Matter, making it easy to install, operate and add to DIRIGERA hub and to other well-known systems.

AFAICT these new devices are Matter over Thread...Verge article lead-in:

Some more reading:

So they should be installable as long as you have one or more Thread Border Routers (HomePod, Google Home, Alexa, etc.) and then you could share it to Hubitat from them. Whether the hub has a built-in Button driver for Matter that will work is another question.

I have the Somrig dual Zigbee button ($9) and it works flawlessly but for $3 less I was going to give the new button a try to keep my 2 gigahertz network less congested. Don't have any Matter devices yet and figured this would be an inexpensive entry. 95% of my devices are Z-Wave.

Assuming the info above is correct and these are Matter over Thread devices, just make sure that you have a Thread Border Router (TBR) to comission the device and then share it to your Hubitat hub...

How? If it's Matter over Thread (as suggested above, though Ikea themselves doesn't clearly state this on the page), that's also 2.4 GHz...

(Actually, even a Matter over Wi-Fi device is likely to be 2.4 GHz too, or at least I don't think I've seen any that actually work on 5 GHz -- but Thread, like Zigbee, definitely is.)

Thanks for the information. For some reason I thought I read the new devices worked in the 433 MHz spectrum. Apparently not; so no reason to buy the new devices for a $3 savings. Luckily I have more buttons than I need.

As of Dec 29th, I have a Bilresa with a new Hubitat Elevation but I can't get it to connect via matter

Info on new Thread devices there, including Bilresa...

You need a thread border router, also known as a TBR to commission the new Ikea Thread Matter devices.

Apple homepod and other Apple devices, Google nest hubs, Alexa Echoes ... More details on that in the topic I linked to.

I added the custom driver using this instructions: How to Install Custom Drivers | Hubitat Documentation; and then rebooted the Hubitat. I have a Google TV Streamer (4K) as my TBR. However, when I try to add the Bilresa using Devices -> Add Device -> Home-Matter, it won't connect.

Do I need to do something other than add the custom driver?

It sounds like you skipped the step of adding it to your Google Home system (or, in general, your Thread network) before trying to add it to Hubitat. See:

I had Google Home added but I was trying to add the BILRESA matter device through the Hubitat web dashboard. I easily and successfully added the BILRESA via the Adding Matter Devices using the Hubitat Mobile App. I then created a simple rule and everything works.

To add a Matter device using the mobile app, select the Devices (or light bulb icon) tab. Then, select Add Matter Device and select Continue after reading the advice and instructions. Scan the Matter setup code when prompted, and follow the instructions.

For folks visiting in the future, look above for the post by danabw that directs you to a different thread to get the custom driver:
