Is there's any additional settings I need to activate to make sure that IFTTT only works within my perimeters (at specific mode). I am trying to get IFTTT to turn on some switches/lights when an Arlo camera sense motion, but I only want it to do it while at specific modes and not all day long. Right now, the IFTTT is capable of turning the lights on once Arlo camera sense a motion, but it does at all times, not how I set it up (only at certain modes). Any suggestions? Thanks!
Youāll need to use a virtual switch, probably a momentary with auto-off set in the deviceās settings page.
IFTTT would turn on the virtual switch, every time your Arlo camera detects motion. Thereās no way to restrict your IFTTT applet to specific Hubitat modes. With the auto-off configured, the virtual switch will be ready to turn on the next time Arlo detects motion and the IFTTT applet fires.
You would then create a Hubitat automation (using simple automations, rule machine, mode lighting etc.) that turns the actual light on when your virtual switch turns on. This is where you would add a restriction so that it only occurs during certain modes.
Thanks!
Though it does seem a bit odd that the app provides this option if it doesn't work. If they wrote it as a single-page app, I could see this being an accident leftover from that (this field gets automatically added, but I'm pretty sure at the end, which is not where it is here and makes it seem more intentional). Perhaps should either fix or remove it? (edit: wait, see below)
Ive never actually tried to use HE modes in an IFTTT applet.
Iām kind of assuming they could still be used as the āthatā in an applet?
e.g. IF Arlo detects motion THEN set Hubitat mode to day.
Oh, yeah! I misread that input as one of the usually-stock restrictions, but I think you're right that it's for control of mode.
But I think I'm at my max applets and can't test, not that I have anything I care about there anymore anyway.
LOL, me too. I had some applets tied to Blink and a wemo air purifier that I hadn't used in a while, so I wasn't that interested in their paid plan.
Paid plan! Not for such a glitchy platform! It's 50:50 at best!
Not only that, I found you can link multiple free IFTTT accounts (eg. with different gmail addresses) to the one Hubitat account. And email address are free. And hence so is IFTTT also for me now
Shhhh, don't tell anyone ok
