Not related to HE but is anyone else annoyed by the lack of a "brief" mode for the Google Home? I really don't need a lengthy verbal confirmation enumerating all of the lights that GH is turning on or off in the room I'm already in.
I have both Dots and GHs and Alexa has had brief mode (short "ding" chime to acknowledge the command) for nearly a year. You'd think that with Google's endless resources that the Home would be running circles around Alexa.
I would love brief mode, GH repeating all I want after I said the same thing is not good, the only way (for now)to make it brief is using IFTTT, and not funny creating recipes just to get brief answers....
Big G's Home vs Alexa feels a lot like G+ vs Facebook; Late to the party and not really their top interest.

Winner: Amazon Echo
Buying a smart speaker and choosing the best one for you isnβt always straightforward, and both of these speakers have their merits. For now, we think that the Amazon Echo is the better buy. It can do more things than the Google Home, costs less, is compatible with more smart home devices, and comes in more colors and fabric choices. Additionally, there are more types of Echo devices to choose from.
We will say that the Google Home and the voice assistant inside does seem smarter than Alexa.
That said, GMH makes a great HE TTS speaker for $30, heh!
While we'll likely never know the number of employees big G as working on the Home product line, the types of things that annoy the crap out of us should be pretty easy to fix. I think the issue is arrogance on Google's part. Remember when not all that long ago saying "Hey Google; turn off the lights" resulted in every single light in the house turning off? Remember how long it took Google to adopt the concept of "Rooms" and devices within those rooms?
Probably, my wife and I learned to not say turn off/on the light without the name of the light because it will cause a big mess, then I was testing something last week and by error I said turn on the light and I discovered it only turned on the lights in that room....
