Hue LED Dimming Level

My experience with LED bulbs is that they don’t dim to a very low level as do incandescent bulbs. I’ve tried several different LED brands, including Sengled.

One brand I haven’t tried is Philips Hue. Will they dim to a very low level?

I don't know your goal for dim lights, however FWIW my Inovelli RGBW bulb is quite a bit dimmer than my Sengled (white only) when both are on "1".

I tried to take a photo but it did not show what I see.

They are both on the floor (in uplight canisters).
With the Sengled at 1 I can see the ceiling and sharp shadows where a cabinet is near the light.
With the Inovelli on 1 there is only a slight dim area on the ceiling, no shadows.

In addition I've had no issues with the Inovelli bulb and I'm told it is a Z-Wave repeater as well.

I know that this kind of thing doesn't come across well in photos (or at least not the amateur ones I'm taking), but I recently compared a Sengled, Hue, Innr, and Inovelli RGBW bulb side by side in the same fixture, and here is what it looked like:

Left to right: Sengled, Hue, Innr, Inovelli, set to 2700K at 1%

What you see in the picture matches my experience: Hue (third-gen, but I imagine anything besides 1 and maybe 2 would be similar) was about tied for dimmest, with the Inovell (LZW42 but I'd guess the LZW41 would be similar) being about the same. Sengled did not get quite as dim, and the Innr was even brighter (and I could not tell a difference between 1-10% at all with it).

To add to the amateur photography, all of this was also "measured" with my eye. So...not scientific. But I think it's reality.

Also, I repeated this experiment across different colors and color temperatures. Some bulbs did odd things, like Sengled getting cooler as it dims when the temperature is above a warm white. Some were also able to get dimmer and some colors/CTs compared to others. Hue and Inovelli were pretty good across the board, though I'd consider Hue the all-around best at everything except for red looking a bit orange-y.

@JohnRob. Thanks for the info about the white Inovelli bulb. I’ll check it out. I wonder if the color capable Inovelli is similar in its low level dimming.

My current bulbs are color capable Sengled. To get them to dim to a very low level I have to change the color to amber or red. It works, but I would prefer the simplicity of just setting the level to 1 and not having to play around with the colors. Level 1 on a color capable Sengled bulb set to white is way too bright (equivalent to maybe about 35% of an incandescent bulb).

Just want an LED bulb that dims very low in white (similar to an incandescent bulb). Is that too much to ask for?

@bertabcd1234 Thanks for the picture! Very helpful. Are those bulbs white only or color capable?

Ideally, I would like a color capable bulb that dims to a very low level when set to white.

All bulbs in that picture were the fullest color/CT capable models that were available (to my knowledge) from that manufacturer--so no white-only or CT-only bulbs.

The Inovelli I have is RGBW, the Sengled was only white.

The Inovelli nomenclature is LZW42. Its a regular A19 shape.

I should mention the Inovelli driver has a parameter to change the white color from 2700 to something too blue for me. The best I can see, the brightness does not change with the color temperature.

this is what a hue light looks dimmed purple 5% at night. i use it in the master bath.
