Worth a watch
It’s about time he saw the light, Hubitat is reliable and HA isn’t (breaking changes and other stupidity have resulted in me binning it more times than I can recall).
But, HA does have amazing dashboards, if you have a degree in user hostile computer systems and a lot of time to waste.
So, there is no way I could handle watching an entire one of his videos start to end. I honestly don't know how anyone can...
What I did watch feels like a sponsored influencer ad to me. Not that it matters, as long as it has honest information in it, but very much seems like an advertisement / promo to me.
I thought the video was pretty fair. He seems to have calmed down at least a little. The TLDR - Hubitat has a lot of good features including managing complexity. But sometimes one has complexity and then Home Assistant is still a necessary part of one's home.
Indeed. I quit somewhere in the middle of the Zigbee power discussion. On one hand, I can understand why someone with even his level of experience wouldn't know if and how HE can change Zigbee power levels. OTOH, I can't understand why someone with his level of experience wouldn't immediately understand why that could be a bad thing. (And, to take it a step further, why he let himself get into that situation in the first place. How was adding repeaters not the immediate first thing that came to mind?)
As someone who glances over in the general direction of HA from time to time, if anything, the first few bits of that video made me feel more confident that HA isn't that bad.
Agreed on the zigbee power. With it on full blast (20) it's spraying difuse signal (more shotgun approach). That said, he's using modes as scenes,,,
Yea, I noticed that too! Not sure why - likely lack of experience with the hub, or just personal preference…
I bought a HA Yellow and its been sitting in the box for almost a year. Ive been wanting to integrate HA to run alongside with Hubitat....lol
No time
I don’t watch many of his videos these days. While I do find him funny, most his reviews are paid for, which adds a layer of bias no matter how honest he is (and I do think he’s very honest).
I do think his review of the C8 Pro was quite fair generally, and I actually agree with him on the Zigbee power setting, that caught me out some time back.
Admittedly I'm not a huge fan of a "supported" review, but I accept they are the nature of the commercial beast, for both parties. I also have some time for Paul.... while I'm not a regular nowadays, I am still partial to listening to his opinion and think he tries, through a veil of entertainment, to offer genuine experience and requests for seeing platforms progress in a way he feels would value his own situation and likely his fan-base.
That said, I did feel it was quite a "lite-touch" review. I would like to think if Paul follow's through on his claims to use Hubitat in more meaningful ways in his house that their will be more in-depth and broader videos in the future. This could be particularly useful as Hubitat look to expand their App and dashboard capability, which Paul did make some mention of in the video.
That was funny and cute as heck. Good for Hubitat for sponsoring this video. I enjoyed it a lot and learned some things too. Like the Zigbee power trick which seems useful. If you want a cool HA like dashboard there are plenty of cool options available for Hubitat, such as @josh sharptools and my HousePanel - or even the old school HE dashboards, so keeping HA around for that seems odd to me. I also didn’t understand his comment about BroadLink since the community integration works great and it is still here - what am I missing? Overall it was worth watching.
I was hoping @PaulHibbert would one day resume posting here on the Forum. He is a fun(ny) and upbeat guy!
