I am an avid Hubitat user, not developer, and have recently installed an WS2812B RGB LED Strip with Individual Addressable LEDs using the Hyperion software to operate. The Hyperion Portal works well however I have not been able to find a way of switching the Hyperion software on and off and more so I want to run this through my Hubitat to align with all my other switches and devices. Has anyone had any luck with Hyperion and or thoughts on how to switch the Hyperion controller on an doff. I DON'T need to control the configuration of Hyperion just ON/OFF. for clarity, I can simply control the power to Hyperion however as this is a Portal and needs IP configuration to the Portal a power down of the Hyperion controller and restart each time is not ideal. thanks in advance.
I have had Hyperion for my home theater screen for a few years and have never turned it off; just the Raspberry Pi it resides. What is need to turn it off/on? Is it interfering with something else?
It looks like there is an Rest API but it looks like there is every command BUT to turn it off or on. I have never used any of that; haven't needed it.
Stephen, thanks for the prompt reply. Likewise, I am using it for a Theatre screen, and I want to be able to shut the LED off when we are not using the screen. I think you are saying you simply shut power to the RP when you are not using it and then restart the RP when you need it. or are you leaving the LED on permanently?
I never turn the Raspberry Pi off nor the LEDs. I believe if you set the Background Effect/Color to black, the LEDs will turn off when there is no video feed. Goto LED Instances --> Effects
How are you running Hyperion? I have the Raspberry Pi running Hyperion at my projector that talks via wifi to an ESP32 device at screen running WLED for the LEDs.
I want to swap the LEDs from current 30/m to a 60/m strip but probably will want to upgrade the Raspberry Pi from a 3 to a 4 first. I am on Ver 2.0.15 and can't upgrade to 2.0.16 without re-installing instead of upgrading.
OK and wow. I didn't, know that it had the capability to do that. and that makes perfect sense. I am a little different, I have an LED screen, which itself is a dumb device run through a video processor and then an LED processor. I simply use a Pay TV box as the source. I have split my video signal to Hyperion and LED screen. have a RP sitting at the sceen that is WIFI back to portal.
Hyperion is AWESOME and has a wow factor when the friends come over. Not as necessary on the latest Romance Comedy but get a good action film or Star Wars and the LEDs are a definite upgrade. My LEDs are mild compared to what I have seen on other setups and some of the new options from companies like Govee. The lights helps the action on screen without being overbearing and distracting.
mate, I am excited to see it running. I will send through an update when I am done and or contact you if I have problems. thank you
